The Black Tornado foot ballers turned back the Klam ath Falls Pelicans 13 to 0 in a penalty infested joust at the Medford stadium. Ron Calkins flung a seven yard traffic jam pass to Dan Miles in Die end zone for one touchdown. Jack Lowery, helped by some nifty block ing, swept right end for 13 yards and the other marker. Miles kicked one extra point. Stubborn clutch defense by both sides and the numerous penalties prevented further scoring. And, the clubs bogged down when penalties gave them chance. Four other Med ford penetrations and Klam ath's one major scoring bid fizzled out. 5-0 Record Victory made M e d f o r d's conference standing 2-0 and gave it a 5-0 season record. The Black Tornado's unscored upon record remained intact. Klamath Union is 1-1 now within the circuit and 2-4 for the year. It was "drop the hanky" night at the Tornado grid arena. Officials stepped olf a total of 20 infractions for 2-5 yards. And, those were not all that were called. Some penalties nullified each other. Others were refused. An early deep penetration, which failed, paved the way for the initial Medford score. The Hurricane was stopped on downs on the Klamath Un ion 17-yard line midway in the starting panel. Klamath's visiting Pelicans could not move the ball and Ron Hitch cock punted out. Safety Lloyd Hammons ran the ball back 16 yards to the KF 40 and there began the scoring drive. In nine plays MHS had its counter. Penalty Helps The Tornado employed the ball packing of Mike Barnes, Lowery and Frank Van Pell. A Miles to Lowery pass gain ed eight yards. A half-the-dis-tance to the goal personal foul penalty on Klamath this time helped the Medfords giving them 12 yards and first down on the 12. Three plays put the Tornado short of first down on the two. On fourth down Lowery ap peared to have poked into the end zone but a procedure breach wrecked the play and Medford was set back to the MEDFORDcjJWTRIBUNJ 7frrmn Eagle Pointers Defeat Rogue River Chieftains Rogue River Eagle Point High school emerged 14 to 0 here Friday night in a Rogue league grid engagement with the Chieftains of Rogue River. 11 was a defensive ruckus. The Tornado rolled up 317 net scrimmage yards while holding the Pels to 138. Klamath netted only 49 yards in the second half while the Big Wind collected 93. Three fumbles, recovered by Medford, plagued the While birds of KF. Medford, which completed seven of nine passes in the first half, failed to con nect on three over the last two periods. Two of the three were intercepted. Klamath's major scoring threat followed the first mark er by the Medfordites. Klam ath was offside on the kickoff. Medford took the penalty and Larry Sander booted off again. Terry Eccles ran the ball out to the 33 yard line and a per sonal foul on Medford put the ball on the 48. A Bud Wolter to Mike Kitching pass gained 30 yards to the Medford 22. Kitching then fumbled on the next play and Medford took over on its 19. Mee Recovers Eight yards of losses after Medford got a first down on the KF 23 stopped Medford s first big bid in the game. A 13-yard Miles to Barnes pass was completed on fourth down but Medford was four yards short of first and 10. Barnes made successive gains of five and 13 yards to the 18 and Van Pelt made two and three to the 13. But Low ery lost a yard and on fourth down Barnes . couldn't quite hang on to a low pass from Miles. Big opportunity arose in the late third quarter when a. Klamath penalty gave Med ford the ball in the shadows of the goal. Miles returned a Ron Hitchcock punt 30 yards to the Pel 26. Klamath was called for unsportsman like conduct and the ball was placed on the 13. Van Pell cracked to the eight but two plays lost to the 13 and the Tornado gave up the ball on the 10.
