Tht event, held at the home of her granddaughter, Mri. Donald A. Faber, wai attended by about 75 relativef and friendi. Woman Hono On Ninetieth Conlrnl Point - Mrs. Ellis F. Hopkins was the honored guest nt a party Saturday, October 6 which observed her 00th birthday anniversary. The event was held at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Donald A. Faber, 3487 New Ray road. Approximately 75 relatives and long-time friends called during the afternoon. Mrs. Faber arranged bouquets of pink and lavendar chrysanthe mums to decorate her home. Mrs. J. H. Hopkins and Mrs. C. L. Dwight assisted the hostess. Mrs. Donald E. Faber and Mrs. Curtis L. Hopkins were in charge of the serving table. Greeting the guests were Linda Faber and Connie Hanscom. Sharon Faber, a granddaughter presided over the guest book. Mrs. Hopkins was born October 7, 1872, in Illinois, and before her marriage was Mary Eslella Sinderson. At an early age she moved with her parents to Bethany, Mo. Thore she attended school and the Teachers' Institute of which she is a graduate. She taught school In that city, and recalls that at the time of her teach ing, having graduated at the age of 10, many of her slu- Reames Social Club Announces Luncheon Rcames Social club will hold a luncheon Wednesday, October 17, at 12 noon in the Masonic temple. Luncheon chairman Is Mrs. Stewart Pcn Ington assisted by Mrs. Eve lyn Hendricks, Mrs. Myrtle Krows, Mrs. A. W. Denny and Mrs. Rodney William. Mrs. II. L. Nulton will con duct a short business meeting, followed by cards. All mem bers of Eastern Star are in vited to attend. Gold Hill - A workshop on articles to make for Christmas gifts will be held at the next meeting of Gold Hill Garden club on Friday, October in at the home of Mrs. Ferd Jones on Sixth avenue. It. will be an all-day meeting commencing at 10:30 a.m. Winners Told The regular session of the Mcdford Duplicate club Oc tober 9 had eight tables of players in session with Mrs. A. W. Lingaas and Paul A. Hatton taking first place in the north-south position with 99 points. Second place in that posi tion was won by Mrs. Sam Richardson and Lcland Clark,1 92 points, and third was taken by Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Gordon, B0KU points. The cast-west positions were won by Mrs. John Dougherty and Ray Wise, first, 91) points; Mrs. George Bratton and John Shortridgc, second, 89 points; and Ervin Hogan and Jack Crawford, third, 86 points. A master point game was scheduled for the group Saturday, October 13. Measures On Program A discusion of ballot meas ures will feature the monthly meeting of the Jackson Coun ty unit, Oregon Federation of Women's Republican clubs, to be held Monday at Ping's Gar den. Luncheon will be served at 12 o'clock. A. A. Dumas, John Dellcn back and Edward Branchficld, Republican candidates for the state legislature, will be the speakers. During the meeting the group will discuss a state-wide scries of coffees planned for Tuesday, October 23, during a television broadcast to pro mute the candidacy of Sig Unandcr, for the United States senate. The broadcast will be carried here by KBES TV from 2:30 to 3 p.m. and scores of coffees will be held in the county while voters watch the broadcast. . I After her marriage in 1881, I she and her husband con tinued to make their home in Bethany, and in 1921 the lam ' ily moved to Idaho, five years : later coming to the Rogue Val I ley. Mr. Hopkins died in 1948 , at the age of 87. i The honored woman is the ! mother of six children, five of whom arc still living. They are Curtis L. Hopkins, James Henry Hopkins, Medford, and Farrell E. Hopkins, Blaine, Wash., and two daughters, Mrs. C. L. Dwight, Eastside, Ore., and Mrs. Vernoye Booth, Cainsville, Mo. She has seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Until two years ago, Mrs. Hopkins had made her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hop kins, 113 North Ross lane. Since that lime she has been in Eastside, Ore., in the home of her son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Dwight. Mrs. Hopkins is still quite active and finds many wavs to be useful around the house and garden. PEO Chapters Slate Meetings Three PEO Sisterhood chap ters will meet this week, the first to be on Tuesday, Octo ber 16 when members of Chapter BE will meet at 7:30 p.m., in the home of Mrs. Rob ert Butler. 317 Stanley ave nue. Mrs. W. E. Herchcr will assist the hostess and Mrs. Ar nel Butler will present the program. Garner Haupcrt will speak about his trip to Norway as an American Field service student for Chapter CG mem bers Wednesday, October 17 at 1:30 p.m., in the home of Mrs. Robert Bcalty on Myers lane. The program will be preceded by luncheon at 12:30 p.m., with Mrs. John Kent as sisting. "Life Begins at Sixty-Five." will be the topic on which Mrs. Allen Smith will speak at a meeting of Chapter CP women Wednesday, October 17 in the home of Mrs. George Roscbcrry. 3310 Hol lywood avenue. The session will begin at 12:30 p.m., with Mrs. Raymond McNair and Mrs. Leonard Mayfield as luncheon hostesses. Senior Activity Classes Prepare For Open House Mr. and Mrs. Ray Neptunp, Rogue Valley Manor, will show slides for the Arm Chair Travelers at the Senior Ac tivity center, Monday, October 15, which they call "Glimpses of the Great Northwest." The Ncptuncs have traveled throughout the United States and some of their pictures have been shown at the cen ter. The Monday show will in clude pictures of a trip they took three weeks ago from Medford in eastern Oregon, Idaho, western Montana, Washington and British Col umbia. The center is at 601 East Jackson street, and the show ing is at 1 p.m. Monday, October 19, pre ceding the show, the Spanish class will meet from 10 a.m. to noon, after a long vacation period. Waller Hatch, retired high school teacher, who has taught the class for two years, will not be in town until early in November, but has asked Mrs. F. E. Stevens, 605 North Col umbus avenue, to take his place temporarily. Frank Gray will be host for the classes for the season. The text will be "Spanish Made Simple." Former members who are not using their book at present are asked to let the new members use the text un til they can order their own. Receiving Committee The Senior Craftsmen re ceiving committee will not meet Monday morning as in the past. Craftsmen who wish to register their crafts for sale in the Ashland Art Gallery can make appointments with the receiving committee by telephoning Mrs. W. L. The shufflcboard teams will meet at the center Wednesday from 10 a.m. until noon. Tuesday, October 16, all members of the oil painting classes are to take as many paintings as they wish to show at the open house birthday party of the center, October 21. The artists have also been 1 asked to exhibit at the First ! Methodist church on the eve- i ning of October 18 by the Methodist Men's club. The program for Ihcir dinner meeting will be on the senior citizen. The senior center or chestra will play following the dinner. Wednesday, October 17, at 2 p.m. a new class in copper tooling will start with Robert Africa as a teacher. New mem-; bcrs are to take the pictures he wants to make to the class. Mr. Africa will show some of his own work and will give a demonstration. The class will be weekly from 2 to 4 p.m. Orchestra Activities 1 The Senior Center orchestra ! had to cancel all engagements last week because of illness and inclement weather. Post- j poncd were their class period, rummage sale and concert at ( the open house of the Blind ! Rehabilitation center on Fri-; day afternoon. Sunday, October 21, they will play at the center's open i house birthday party which will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. as a benefit for the United j Crusade. Final arrangements will be made at the practice meeting Thursday. j New programs for the ccn-1 ter will be available at the open house and registration for other new classes can be' made at that time.
