MEDFORD, OREGON initnaUjiii our iui'i&usx a laos More People Seek Home Information Through Chamber People seeking residential information about Medford continue to outnumber those requesting tourist inlormation, according to an analysis of letters received by the Med ford Chamber of Commerce. Don McNeil, manager of the chamber, said the chamber re ceives more than 3,000 letters a year requesting a wide va riety of information. The analysis of letters was made during the last five months to determine the category of in formation most commonly cought, McNeil said. 'We were surprised to learn," he said, "that one third of all letters coming to the chamber specifically indicate a desire or plans to move to Medford and request informa tion in this category. Seven teen per cent of the letters re quested tourist information." More requests for tourist in formation is received as a di rect result of advertising in newspapers and publications, he noted. Request Pattern Changes "Ten years ago," he noted, "we received more requests from prospective tourists than prospective residents. At that time we saw the need to de velop more concise informa tion for those wanting to come here and live because it was evident that the request pat tern was changing." McNeil said the more con cise information program has paid off "because Medford seems to be highly regarded as one of the top chambers when it comes to presenting facts to the residential pros pect. "This we are told by many who have come here to live and have had occasion to write numerous chambers of com merce," he added. Other types of information sought includes inquiries from school children, 15 per cent; inquiries for general informa tion, 19 per cent, and miscel laneous inquiries, 17 per cent The latter, McNeil said, may range from a request for a Medford postcard for some collector to a yellow page list ing of all dental laboratories. Some of the mail received reflects weather conditions in other parts of the country, Mc Neil said. "For example, severe snow storms in North Dakota will invariably bring a flock of letters from that area asking for facts about Medford and particularly weather informa tion.
