OREGON Extreme Fire Danger Noted in Areas of Forest in Report Warm weather has increas ed the fire danger in Rogue River National forest areas to extreme, and forest visi tors have been asked to use caution while in the woods. The weekly recreation re port issued by Rogue River National forest by district is: Applegat. district: Warm weather this week has in creased the fire danger to ex treme, and it will continue as such until the fall rains. Roads are in good shape, but dusty. Logging traffic will be encountered on the Beaver Creek, Thompson Creek, Middlefork, Sturgis and Steve Fork roads. Traffic is exceptionally heavy on the Beaver Creek and Thompson Creek roads. All trails are open, includ ing Sturgis Fork, although it might be difficult to locate through the logging area. Deer season starts in Cali fornia Sept. 22, and in Ore gon Sept. 29. A lot of bucks have been noticed in both states. The station will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week, and Cali fornia deer tags can be vali dated. Butte Falls district: Road Klamath Falls Girl Dies in Accident Klamath Falfls -UTO- Stcph ( lie Waits, 13, Klamath Falls, was killed near here Wednes day night when her bicycle was struck by a car. The accident occurred on a Klamath County road two miles southeast of Klamath Falls. Lylc Jones, 13, Klamath Falls, who also was on the bicycle, was injured seriously. State police said Harold Hill, 18, Klamath Falls, was driv ing the car. work has started on the Park er Meadows campground. Six new units are to be added to the existing facilities. A view point overlooking the touth fork of the Rogue river will be constructed. All roads will be completed by hunting sea son, and it is planned to have the stoves installed by that time. New road signs are being installed on the Parker Mead ows road. The multiple -use signs explaining the various aspects of multiple-use man agement have been erected on tile Parker Meadows road. Motorists wishing to drive the road can obtain direction at the district office. The old Blue Rock lookout has been lorn down to make room for a new tower. People wishing to visit a lookout tower should go to the Rust ler Peak lookout. Prospect district: Tempera tures In the district have been in the low and mid eighties and cool in the eve ning. Abbott Creek campground is not completed; however, the road throughout the camping area and the units will be aavilablc for use dur ing deer season. Huckleberry season is over, and berries are becoming scarce in the district. Fishing also has been slow during the last couple weeks; however, there have been some good catches on flies in the eve nings. Personnel will be at the station throughout the week and will be available for any additional information needed. Union Creek district: All campgrounds and roads on the Union Creek district are open. Huckleberry season is over and the cone picking U just beginning. The days are warm and sunny and the nights are cold, so campers should bring warm clothing. There is suf ficient room in the camp grounds now that the heavy use season is over. There is now heavy logging traffic on the Minnehaha Creek Access road as well as the Huckleberry road via Mill Creek. It is recommend ed that these roads not be used for recreational travel. This includes an extra $6,831 to local government and an extra $5,100 to agri culture granted by the State Emergency Board Aug. 31.. The education committee expects to return about $8,000, largely because it didn't have to lay out salaries for an executive secretary and other staff. Puroose of the committees requiring special study - ev erything from a new grower processor act to overhauling the outdated, 21,000 word Oregon constitution. The legislature meets every two years. In between, the interim committees do spade work on a variety of prob lems, giving the next session a running start oii legislation. Hearings have been held throughout the state. Mem bers were paid expenses in cluding meals and lodging, plus 10 cents a mile for travel. The legislature doesn't al ways adopt bills recommend ed by interim committees, and sometimes ignores their work completely. An example was in 1961, when an exhaustive, major plan of tax reform sub mitted by the tax interim committee was dumped. Of the current groups, the Constitutional Revision Com mission had the weightiest job, and it started with the most money - $50,000. With 17 members, it was the larg est committee and unlike the others had lay and judicial members, as well as legisla tors. The agriculture, local gov ernment, natural resources and small business committees each were given $25,000, and $15,000 apiece went to the education, highways and so cial Droblems committees. All eight are in the final stages of drafting recom mendations to the 1963 legis lature which meets in Janu ary. They have been working a year or more. The commit tees will dissolve when the session convenes. Dead Lien Hunter Thought To Haye Used Wrong Gun Lisbon - ci'PD - Joseph Shaw, San Francisco, was killed by a lion while hunting in south trn Angola, apparently be cause his Magnum 300 rifle was not suitable for this type of hunting, the Lusitania news agency reported today. The agency, in a dispatch from Luanda, capital of An gola, said the American was killed north of Mucusso in the extreme south Sept. 16. Shaw had arrived in Angola Sept. 8, and proceeded by air and road to the south. He was carrying a Mag num 300 rifle which he used while hunting in Alaska for such animals as lynxes and moose. Local hunters said this rifle was not suitable for lion hunting, especially where the lions in the extreme south o Angola are among the big gest and most ferocious in Africa. When no lions had been sighted, Shaw decided to go out and look for them Sept. 16 without the company of his guides. He was found dead lated. Shaw apparently found a lion, shot and hit it, and then was attacked and killed by the wounded animal.
