Coordination Said To Be Inadequate Portland - H'Pli - Herman Meier jurgen of Bcaverton, chairman of the Oregon Fish commission, said Wednesday night there is a "woeful lack" of coordination between the Oregon Fish and Game com missions. He testified before a sub committee of the Oregon Legislative Interim Commit tee on Natural Resources. Meierjurgen proposed that his three member group be expanded to five with the two other members to be se lected from the five-man game commission. He said that the proposal was not intended to lead to ward consolidation of the two commissions. However, Rollin Bowles of Portland, a member of the game commission, testified against the proposal. He said a policy instituted last year under which one member of ' each commission sits in as an observer on the other com- i mission was working out satis-1 factorily. I State Rep. Carl Back (D-1 Port Orford), chairman of the subcommitte, said he was puz zled why there has not been more cooperation between the two groups. To be represented by presi dents, managers, secretaries and tourist committee chair men will be the Medford, Josephine county, Ashland, Rogue River, Gold Hill and Cave Junction chambers. The group promotes the southwest Oregon area by means of an $8,000 budget contributed by the Jackson and Josephine counties. The resulting advertising appears in national magazines such as Holiday and Sunset. Medford Chamber Manager Don McNeil said a study of results last fall indicated that 56 per cent of the persons who requested information due to the advertisements spent part of their vacation in the Rogue valley. McNeil said the vaca tion stay averaged five days. Also paid for by the pooled funds were invitational bro chures which are sent out in response to requests from the advertisements. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Rogue Valley Country club. Next year's publicity program will be out lined and discussed.
