OREGON MEDFORD. 5n,TRIBUNI SFODninrs Optimistic Rogue River Will Take on Glendale Rogue River - Rogue River Jugh school, with a squad re ported more optimistic than Chieftain clubs of past recent 'seasons, opens 1962 activity on Friday night. The Chiefs, under the head coaching helm for the first lime o Wayne Misener, travel to Glendale. This will be a non-league prelude to a full Rogue league slate. Glendale is a member of the Umpqua Valley circuit. " Misener has had his crew spend much time on funda mentals in the three weeks of practice sessions. And, he re ports, "The line is coming Along pretty well and looks fair." The backfield, with a couple of key men lost, will be small. Much Expected ' The mentor reported that quite a bit is expected from Jhree veterans. Jack Salter, quarterback; Mike O'Brien, tackle, and Gust Schefstrom, guard. They have been doing well in practice. Salter played halfback last season. He will teach mathemat ics and world geography. A grad of Brigham Young uni versity, he taught last year t Orem, Utah. - Frank D'Eagle earlier was scheduled to take the coach ing post but reportedly did pot qualify; WINS ORIENT TITLE I. Tokyo-IUPIl-Mitsunori Seki of Japan won the Orient featherweight title from Thai land's Veeranid Chareon maung Wednesday by scoring 4 unanimous 12-round decis ion. Seki is the second-ranked challenger to the world feath erweight crown. . HORN RISKS Portland - IUPH - Middle weight Bobby Horn of Eu gene risks his unbeaten record in a 10-rounder against vet eran trial horse Ernie Gipson of Seattle in the Portland armory tonight. Misener is drilling his squad basically in the split T. His football turnout is from 35 to 40 boys. Possible Starters Possible offensive starters for Rogue River are Schef strom and Salyer, ends; Bill Cooper and O'Brien, tackles; Low and Pentecost, guards; Bob Clark, center; Salter, quaterback; Arden Liles, left halfback; Alan Gates, right half, and Jerry Wahl, full back. Liles, Gates, Wahl and Clark are sophomores, Schef strom and Penecost juniors and the others seniors. For defense O'Brien and Schefstrom may be ends; Larry Craig and Bill Cooper, tackles; Brad Frazier and Pentecost, guards, among Tom Williamson, Low, Salyer and Frank Palmerton, for three linebacker spots and among Vernon Goodrich, Jim LeRoy, Gates and Liles, for two safety positions.
