WHAT'LL THEV tP. wuEyM THINK OF NEXT ? $4z7 Better Prospects For Business Seen In Balance of Year New York -WD- If Bernard L. Salesky is a prophet, then the possibility some men lost their shirts in the stock mar ket a lew months ago failed to scare off the American man's desire for new attire this year. Salesky is chairman of the board of Hat Corporation of America, and his brother Charles is president. Their company is one of the nation's foremost producers of hats, in cluding three of the most widely - known brands, and of men's clothing generally. "I think the men's wear business this fall is bound to be better," he said while dis cussing industry propects for the balance of the year. Hopes for Tax Cut "The purchasing power is here. The demand is here. People are expecting a lax cut sooner or later - I feel we've got to have one to loosen up purchasing power - and that idea is going to help. "And the men's wear peo ple generally have widened their vision and are venturing into fields they have not tried before. In the past there have been signs the industry was suffering from myopia." All in all, he said, he looked for industry sales to be up bout 7 per cent this fall over last year's. "At the start of the year the industry had hoped for a 10 per cent rise, figured it would be five -and seven looks good," he said. Salesky said he believed that the recent performance of the market and some of the uncertainties which it created in the economy would result in "just separating the men from the boys." "I think the good companies are going to get better and the terrible ones are going to get worse," he said. ''Run your company well, and over a period of 10 years the market will take care of itself." he said. "But that's if you run a tight ship, not a loose one." "We've got a new S3, 200, (100 plant on 100 acres of land He's patrolling the city limits . . . Ours! Mai Street doein't and with tht idewalkt. Not any mora. Aik the. That must show some confidence in what lies ahead for the economy. And we have one of the finest cloth ing factories in the world." He said his representatives had detected "no hesitation" in purchasing for 1963. When the Salesky brothers look over direction of the Hat Corporation in 1955, it was an S8 million a year firm. This year, it will do close to $35 million in sales, Bernard Salesky believes. Discussing sales techniques in men's wear generally. Salesky pointed out that while his company is known as the Hat Corporation, it has sub stantial lines of other men's wear, including the Fashion Park and Stein Bloch lines. "But I don't want to sell just suits," Salesky said, "I want to sell men's clothing. ' By that, he said, he meant that his organization constant ly was on the lookout for ways to get the prospective customer interested in buying sports wear, headwear, broad ening his wardrobe generally. "We have customers who buy seven and eight hats a year," he said. "It doesn't dis turb me too much if a man doesn't wear a hat. There still is plenty of demand for hats, enough to make a good busi ness. LEGAL NOTICES NOTICE TO CREDITORS Tn the Circuit Court of the Stale of Orecon for Jackson County.
