In Planned Housing Problems Foreseen

The planner of a new de
velopment in suburban Lou
don County. Va., found that
10 per cent of the county
school budget went to trans
portation expenses. So Ster
ling Park was laid out to put
all homes within five blocks
of an elementary school.
Recreation is another prob
lem in exploding suburbs. For
the Sterling Park project,
builder Marvin T. Broyhill
Jr., allocated 75 acres out of
a total 1.T6S for swimming
pools, golf course, tennis
courts-and Little League ball
fields.

now encompass division and

Play ways to learning math
include such ingenious de
vices as a "Fractions are Easy
as Pie" game which helps
children learn the relation
ship between fractions. A

well-proven classroom tech

lationship between fractions,
common fractions, decimals

new math wheel.
Recongition of the fact that
getting children interested
in foreign languages at an
early age is important, is
stressed in a variety of new
games keyed to teach basic
French. "Words That Go To
gether" is a new game kit
presenting colorful object
cards accompanied by words
in both French and English.
The French words are also,
spelled phonetically. Chil
dren can play alone or with
up to five other children,
with the aid of self checking
devices.
Play and learning games

as those who lag in their
school performance, says Dr.
Marcella Kelly, an educator
who has developed - variety
of games keyed to the curricu
lum. "Sharpening of skills re
lated to learning helps make
each student a better schol
ar." From fractions to French,
