Court To Discuss Adding Members To Fair Board The county court will dis cuss appointment of two ad ditional members to the Jack son county fair board, accord ing to County Judge Earl M. Miller. The county court re affirmed its intention to ex pand the three-man board to a five-man board after read ing a resolution from the Rogue Valley Rabbit Breed ers association requesting the appointments. County Commissioner Ches ter Wendt emphasized he is not endorsing an open-class county fair by urging ap pointment of two more fair board members. However,, he feels more diversified agricul tural interests should be rep resented on the board. Pres ent members, Francis Krouse, Applegate; William Bigham, Eagle Point; and C. H. Buf fington, Phoenix, all repre sent the cattle industry. "We believe the agricultur al picture both economically and living-group wise has progressed and presents new and wider interests that just ly should be given a voice in considering the position our fair board takes on many mat ters," the resolution stated. "One of these areas of prog ress is in the small stock field." The county judge noted that the county court considered last spring adding to the fair board, but took no action on the proposal. Field Day Planned Tuesday at Farm An experiment station field day is scheduled tor Tuesday morning, Aug. 21, at the Han ley Experimental farm, ac cording to Gene Winters, county extension agent. The program planned by Station Superintendent Har old White, station agronomist John Yungen and Winters will enable farmers of Jackson county and southern Oregon to see the latest research un der way in field, truck and vegetable crops. Stock growers will be espe cially interested in the forage investigation work. Field corn variety trials, fertilizer exper iments and weed control plots will be observed. Sweet corn, tomato and onion variety tri als will be visited. Included in the tour will be soy bean, bush bean for seed, safflower, and other miscel laneous crops and tests. The Southern Oregon School of Practical Nursing offers you a wonderful opportunity to learn a new vocation. Applications are NOW being accepted for next year's class. The Practical Nurse course is one year in length twelve weeks of classroom instruction and thirty-eight weeks of clinical training in the hospital. The instruction includes nursing care, personal hygiene, structure and function of the body, first aid, administration of common drug, nutrition, care of mother and rewborn, and care of children You can learn while you earn! The cost of the course is approximately $245.00. Thirty dollars is paid upon registration and the remainder is payable at the rate of $25.00 per month. You receive a stipend during the clinical training which amounts to approximately $765.00. For entrance requirements call the Adult Education office and you will receive a bro chure with the full details. Classroom instruction is held at the Rogue Valley Memorial Hospital. Upon completion of the course, a diploma is granted by the Medford Public School District and the honor of wearing the school cap upon success fully passing the State Licensing examination. After graduating from high school 1 had olanned to enter nurse s train ing but was unable to do so. During the ensuing years in raising my fam ily, I still had the thought tucked away as to how nice it would be to some day be a nurse. It was with great excitement that 1 first began to read and hear re ports that a Practical Nursing School was being organized in Medford. I decided to apply and was accepted in the first class starting in 1959. I consider this a very educational course and would recommend it to any lady who is looking fer further edu cation interested m nursing. Having graduated from this school and being employed has greatly in creased my confidence m myself and I realize now that I do have a service I can offer to the many ill people we have around us at all times.
