The palace with its sea green dome and vast, vacant halls was nearly completed when young King Faisal and his family were shot July 14, 1958. as the army seized pow er. It is now intended for the president of the Iraqi Repub lie. but there is no president. The graceful, sprawling parliament building with its pink marble walls was Hear ing completion on that July morning and it is finished now. But there is no parlia ment. Workmen have just put Uie final touches on the new sur rounding wall with its ornate iron gates. But the joke go ing around Baghdad is that it Is meant to keep politicians out.
