Ray Oliver, who played in vaudeville for years is organizer and master of cere- monies. The band is composed of members of the Veterans' domiciliary at White City. They chose the name "Astronauts" because of the "high quality" of their music. (Charles Matthews photo) 'Astronauts' Orchestra Is Organized at Domiciliary White City-Seventeen years ago the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima that brought World War II to an end. The Veterans Administra tion this week is observing the anniversary, and at White City domiciliary, V-J Day will be a day to be remembered by several hundred of the veterans now living there. In honor of this occasion, the Astronauts, newly form ed dance and dinner orches tra, made their first public appearance as a concert group. Members of the orchestra, who last week end played during the Jacksonville Jubi lee, represent three wars -World War I, World War II and the Korean engagement. They were organized by two members, Kenneth Haecker, who is director, playing five instruments on occasion, and Ray Oliver, for merly in vaudeville, master of ceremonies, playing base viol in the orchestra. Band Members Here are the other members of the band: Randolph Paulson, plays violin, saxaphone, clarinet, base and guitar as well as the piano. He was with Henry Busse, Charlie Bamett and was a bandsman during his Army service. Benjamin Joseph, drummer, formerly with Anson Weeks and Dick Jergens, had his own orchestra in Sacramento, was also an Army bandsman. Sidney Johnson, ex-Army band leader, plays trombone and trumpet, was with Archie Loveland, Tiny Burnett (Or pheum circuit) and Vic Myers of Seattle. Art Kenton, dance and re cording artist with Stan Ken ton and with Vic Myers, plays clarinet. Pat Fredericks, plays tenor sax and was a member of the Chuck De Poes All Indian band in Minnesota. Also with Art Moro Indian band, Ne braska. Louis Nichols, accordionist, was with the VA Hospital band, Roseburg many years. Aired Crank plays guitar and other stringed instruments. Only one of the group Is without professional experi ence. He is Clem Brown, violinist, who came to the Domiciliary four years ago and became a musician here. He is mostly self taught but has received help from other musicians who have been here. He now plays along with I he best of them. VACATION Attorney General Robert F.
