Woodworkers Withdraw Earlier 0 emands for Wag Move Virtually Assures Lumber Industry Peace Portland -lUPIl- Members of the International Woodwork ers of America have voted to withdraw earlier wage de mands, it was announced to day by the Timber Operators Council. The IWA on June 27 noti fied the TOC it was recom mending withdrawal of de mands for a 30-cent hourly wage increase at present and would put the matter to a vote of union members. The announcement today said the vote had been completed. Peace Virtually Assured Karl F. GIos, executive vice president of the TOC, said this means virtual assur ance of peace in the North west lumber industry at least until June 1 of next year. That is when present con tracts expire. They opened this year for wages only. Glos said he would attempt to arrange a meeting in a few days with the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union to try to conclude an agreement setting aside wage demands until next June. The LSW has been concentrating on completing contracts in the pine industry which are not represened by the TOC. Latter Quoted Glos quoted a letter from Harvey Nelson, chairman of the IWA Western Slates Re gional Council Negotiation committee, saying: "This is to advise this organization (IWA) will not press further for a general wage increase as a result of the contract opening in 1962. You may, therefore, consider negotia tions closed, for a general wage increase until such time as another notice is served by the local unions in accordance with the opening provisions of the various working agree ments." Both the IWA and LSW represent some 30,000 work ers in the Northwest. Glos said "action by the union members shows that they have realistically ap praised the current situation." The TOC represents 101 employers. Regional Edition MEDFORDf Page 2-A Tribune MEDFORD. OREGON, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8. 1902 Western Demos Adopt of Resolutions Argentine Army Commander Leads Rebellion Move Buenos Aires - IUPII - The government announced today that Gen. Fedcrico Toranzo Montero, commander of the 4th Army Corps has "com mitted an act of rebellion" and is attempting to take over command of the Argentine army. Shortly after the govern ment announcement, Toranzo announced that he had set up a "command" at the head quarters of army mountain troops In the northern city of Jujuy. ' It was also reported that he had begun broadcasting from there to all army units for support and was demand ing the resignation of War Secretary Gen. Juan Bautista Loza. A communique from the War Secretariat said, how ever, that the army command "has taken corresponding steps for a rapid normaliza tion of the situation." It described Toranzo's ac tion as an "isolated event." However, authoritative sourc es said "doubtful" army com manders were being relieved of their commands in Pa tagonia and Buenos Aires as a result of his revolt. Other sources said a "wide spread" shakcup in top army commands was being quickly carried out as a result of Tor anzo's action In an effort to nip the rebellion. The revolt was believed lo have started after a number of provincial commanders had "suggested" that Bautista Loza accept a number of de mands or else resign. The army dissension was the latest in a series of domes tic crises which have involved the army since the ouster of President Arturo Frondizi by the armed forces last March 28 in the wake of sweeping election victories by follow ers of former Dictator Juan Peron.
