SPAHN,
By FRED DOWN
UPI Sports Writer
Forget those pennant races
for a moment and sound a
salute for Warren Spahn and
Robin Roberts - two grand
old pitchers whose baseball
obits were prepared some
what prematurely.
Spahn, who had only an
81 1 record on July 13, gain
ed his 11th victory of the
season when he pitched the
Milwaukee Braves to an 8-1
win over the Philadelphia
Phillies Sunday while Rob
erts, winless until June 11,
chalked up his seventh tri
umph for the Baltimore Ori
oles, 7-2, over the Los Angles
Angels.
The victory was the 320lh
of Spahn's career and gives
him an outside chance to
achieve his 13th 20-win sea
son. Roberts' win was the
241st of a career that seemed
ended when the New York
Yankees released him in
June.
Spahn yielded six hits and
walked one batter in squar
ing his season record at 11-11.
He was backed by a 10-hit
attack which included two
homers by Joe Adcock that
drove in five runs. Eddie
