Jacksonville Brochure Planned By Siskiyou Sites Foundation MEDFOHD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD, OREGON SUNDAY. AUGUST 5. A Jacksonville brochure which would depict and illus trate the various historic at tractions of the area, was dis cussed at a recent board meet ing of the Siskiyou Pioneer Sites Foundation. Jack Sutton, Foundation president, said that an 8li by 11-inch brochure of three folds with suitable illustra tions would cost $260 for 20,000. Because of the ex pense and importance of the pamphlet, the board decided that other groups should be consulted about co-publishing-lng it. Named to a committee to study the situation were Sut ton, chairman Bob Lowe, Leone Salyer and Doris Brew er. The committee members will invite other organizations In the Jacksonville area that have interest in such a bro chure to participate. Furnishings Discussed The board also discussed furnishings from the historic Hornbrook hotel, pictures for Banking magazine, pioneer murals from the Jackson house, the Beekman bank and U.S. Hotel and membership fees. Mrs. Edward C. Smith of Hornbrook, Calif., informed the organization that furnish ings in the Hornbrook hotel were available for purchase. Offered were antique bed room sets, a staircase, an or nate trimmed bay window, and old chairs. It was decided that in view of the shortage of available funds the founda tion could not purchase the items at this time. Art Chipman notified board members that Banking Maga zine wants pictures and back ground information of the Beekman bank. The magazine is nationally circulated to banking interests. The board approved providing the infor mation and pictures. Murals Available Mrs. Janice Houghton said representatives of the Jack son House, Medford, had ad vised her that the pioneer murals painted by Hal Bishop might be available to the foun dation for use in local build ings. The board decided that the foundation did not have funds to purchase the paintings, but would like to receive them. Arrangements could be made for storing them locally in Jacksonville and later possi bly displaying them in re stored buildings, such as the U. S. Hotel dining room, ac cording to spokesmen. Mrs. Doris Brewer present ed an optimistic attendance report on the Beekman bank. ! She reported that the attend ance has been increasing in the past several weeks. A progress report was given by George Brewer on the U S Hotel. He said the balcony is up and a wood preserving compound has been placed on the wood surface of the bal cony materials. Three categories of mem berships were recommended by Wilson Slater-regular, $2; sustaining memberships, $25; and life, $50. A letter of -invitation to membership, along with a copy of the annual re port and the dues structure, is to be mailed to many valley residents soon. New organiza tion envelopes are being pre pared with a picture of the U. S. Hotel on them. 1962 A 7 1 .. ,- . n i Howard-Cooper Awarded Confracf Howard-Cooper corporation of Central Point was award ed the contract for a shovel dragline combination ma chine Friday by the Jackson county court. The program is called a self-portrait because most of ihe visual and narrative con tent was supplied by Van Gogh himself-through paint ings and drawings made avail able by museums and private collectors and through ex cerpts (read by Lee Z. Cobb) from the remarkable series of letters the artist wrote to his younger brother Theu. These letters were written during Van Gogh's most productive years as well as when he was confined in an asylum for the mentally ill. Besides winning an Emmy Award and a George Foster Peabody Award, the program has received a citation from the National Association for Better Radio and Television as the best single program of the year, and was selected to represent the United States in the Venice International DUAL CYCLE WASHER $ 1 No Trade Needed Matching DRYER 11995 Dual Cycle Rotary Timer 5 Fresh Water Rinses Buill-in Sediment Remover Simple Single Hose Hookup to Mixer Faucet i J...
