Cream 5 for $1 Apricots canning, lug $2.98 2 ib, 25c C 7 State Land Board Sold 80 Acres It Didn't Own Salem - IUPI) - 11 has been discovered that 58 years ago the Oregon Land Board sold 80 acres in Curry county that it didn't own. The tract, about 12 miles east of Gold Beach, was sold Feb. 3, 1904, to Emma G. Robinson. Now it has been de termined that the land at the time was unsurveyed and in the public domain. The situation was discover ed after Ocean View Lumber Co., Gold Beach, bought the property, but ran into a snag while attempting to secure title insurance. The tract is now within the Siskiyou National Forest. T. G. Bernard, clerk of the land board, said an applica tion has been filed with the U. S. Bureau of Land Manage ment asking for another 80 acre;;, to be transferred to the company. The site is about 12 miles northwest of the area the lumber company thought it was buying. Barnard said both state and federal laws provide for such a transfer. A sticky part is that over the years, the persons who owned the 80 acre tract paid taxes on it, while it was in federal control all the time. The state has never held any interest in that particular tract. 24 Area Students Pre-Regisier at SOC Ashland - Pre-registration for fall term freshmen was held at Southern Oregon col lege last week, enrolling 24 students from the Medford area, according to Dr. Alvin Fellers, director of student affairs. Two Accidents Reported in Area Two one-car accidents were reported to Oregon slate po lice Tuesday afternoon and early Wednesday, both result ing In minor injuries. About 5:08 p.m. Tuesday, a one-car accident on High way 82, about 3'i nnles west of Prospect, was reported to state police. The vehicle was operated by Uther Alonzo Rogers, 88, of 65 Fourth at., Ashland. According to police, Rog ers attempted to brush a bee aside, lost control of the car and after continuing along the road, hit a tree. Both Rogers and his wife, Ethel Rogers, 54, a passenger. suffered cuts and bruises, po lice said. They were taken to Ashland General hospital bv Medford Ambulance service. This morning officers re ported that a car operated by Llvln Hawkins, If), of route 2, box 218A, Medford, failed to negotiate a corner at Corey and Kershaw rds.
