Republicans, who Tuesday night blocked the first leader ship effort to compromise the bitter dispute, agreed to the procedure today after being assured there was no likeli hood the administration's farm bill would be called up for action In the interim. Under the agreement, the controversial measure, op posed by a group of liberal Democrats will be studied for 10 days by the Senate Foreign Relations committee. Mansfield's Promise The agreement also was conditioned upon Senate Dem ocratic Leader Mike Mans field's promise that the satel lite bill, when returned to the Senate floor by Aug. 10, would remain the pending business until disposed of one way or the other. The hill would rreafe a I privately owned but govern ment-regulated corporation to operate space communications satellites. Democratic liberals opposed to the measure had conducted a five-day filibuster against it. Republican Sens. John G. Tower (Texas), Barry Gold water (Arizona), and Roman L. Hruska (Nebraska), all of whom figured in holding up the agreement Tuesday night, accepted the compromise to day. Mansfield said he felt sure the Foreign Relation commit tee would start hearings on the communications bill Thursday. Acceptance of the compro mise by all sides ended thn possibility of a cloture, or gag, move by the leadership. Recreation Program To Close Thursday Central Point - The sum mer recreation program in Central Point will close Thurs day, Aug. 2, with a program presented in the Central Point 'Junior High school gymnas ium. "I know we wouldn't go be hind the Iron Curtain and it would be too expensive to go to Japan," said Mrs. Shcrri Fink bine who has been thwarted in her home state in tries for legal clearance to terminate her pregnancy. She added that "Sweden would be best - Sweden would be like home. It is very much like Minnesota where I was born." Her husband, Robert, a high school teacher, said they still were exploring all possibili ties and have not yet made any decision. It was expected the operation would have to be performed in the near future. Mrs. Fink bine explained that the trip would be costly wherever they went and their only problem was money. She said they were not looking for any public financial sup port. "This is our problem and we must solve it our own way. We will get a loan if i we must. I think it would he easier to live with monthly payments for the rest of our lives than with the misfortune of a terribly m a 1 formed baby," she said. The husband applied Tues day in U.S. District Court to extend his passport to include his wife. The application must be sent to Los Angeles where, if approved, it will enable the couple to travel anywhere in the world where U.S. citizens are allowed. DOCTORS IN ITALY PLANNING STRIKE Rome-'I'I'f-A medical union leader said Tuesday night a doctor's strike which might involve all of Italy's nearly 100, 000 doctors is planned lor next month. Dr. Romolo Gentile said Rome's 9,000 doctors would strike, and added that 90,000 other physicians throughout the country might join them. Rome's doctors are demanding higher fees and a higher retirement age for government-employed physicians. Doctors recommended the abortion because the 30-year-old mother of four healthy children took the drug early in her pregnancy. A judge dismissed the case Monday which the local television star nf a children's program had hoped would free her from possible prosecution. Finkbine said Tuesday they were giving up their battle for a legal abortion and would "seek help in a more favor able legal climate." Arizona law says a mother's life must be in dancer before such an operation can be performed. Time is an essential factor in the Finkbines' decision. Doctors say that unless the abortion is performed before she has been pregnant three months, a hazardous Caesar ian section would be required.
