MEDFOHD, OREGON Zonta Convention Highlights To Be Given at Meeting Mrs. Eloise Winklebleck, president of the Medlord Zonta club, will give high lights o the recent 36th an nual international convention of Zonta International held in New Orleans, during a pic nic for club members to be held Thursday, July 2fi at the home of Mrs. Cole Holmes, 16 Ross court. The president recently an nounced that awards were presented to Zonta Interna tional at the convention for accomplishments of Zontians in the program for the Na tional foundation, the Auto motive Safety foundation and also from the Girl Scouts of America for outstanding work with girls in America. The 1962 Amelia Earhart scholarships were awarded to Mrs. Suzanne Palocz, a Hun garian student at Brooklyn polytechnic; Miss Diane La maire of Melbourne, Aus tralia; Miss Barbara Kroupa of Traverse City, Mich., and Mrs. Wendy Shih Pi from For mosa. Scholarships are award ed each year to qualified young women for graduate work in aeronautical engin eering. Past Chief Club Plans Dinner Mr. and Mrs. John Scott Hall, 140 Alida street, Ash land, will be hosts to the members and their families of the Past Chief club of the Pythian Sisters, July 24 at 6:30 p.m. A potluck dinner will be served in the patio. Members are to take their own table service. According to the president, Mrs. Harry Barnc burg, there would be a short business meeting after the dinner and then pinochle will be played. Mrs. Mitchell Is Honored at Party Mrs. Bessie Mitchell was honored at a surprise birth day parly July 18 at the home of her son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mc Candliss, 204 North Fourth street, Jacksonville. A barbecued supper was served on the patio at the Mc Candliss home. A. Mead home, 3471 Oakpine Way, Central Point. Supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. Families attending should lake table service. Those ; whose surnames begin with Inters from A to M are to take salad and dessert, while those beginning with N to Z are to lake fried chicken and a vegetable. Mrs. Gleason is the former Miss Janet Shaw. Dale Shaw, an airman sec ond class with the Air Force, recently returned from 18 months' service in the Azores. He is a graduate of Mrdfnrd High school. The family is en route to his new slut ion at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio, Tex. The Earles, who lived in Med ford before moving to the mid-West and later to the East coast, were guests of Mr. Earle's mother, Mrs. C. D. Vroman, and Mr, Vrnman, Coleman Creek road. Traveling with Mrs. Earle was Miss Carole James, Ak ron, Ohio, who is a physical therapist on the staff of an Akron hospital. From Med ford the group continued to Seattle to attend the World's fair. Mrs. Earle brought the engineer for the highway de partment of Baltimore coun ty, Maryland. Previously Mr. Earle was employed by the Toledo Testing laboratories and was with the state high way department in Ohio. The family lived at Cleveland and Toledo before moving to Maryland. Mrs. Earle. a mathematics teacher, has been granted an academic scholarship by the National Science foundation and will attend Rutgers uni versity, Brunswick, N.J., be ginning with the fall term, do ing advanced study in new Guests Ashland - Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carr, 11.1 Hillcrest avenue, have been Mr. Carr'j sister, Mrs. C. Phoenix Club Hears Program On Fuchsias Held In Jacksonville theories and practices in mathematics. A dessert was served, with Mrs. Charles Hockersmith and Mrs. Klarin as hostesses. Mrs. Lester Carr made the flower arrangement for the day. Townsend Club To Meet Wednesday Townsend club held a dis- convention in Maple here Sunday, July 15 About 40 people attended the picnic lunch, at which Robert Duncan was featured speaker. The birthday dinner for all those who were born during July will be held Wednesday, July 25. The club meets at 11 a.m. in the Knights of Pythias hall. Discussion was held at the meeting Wednesday, July 18, on whether to raise amount of dues, or to change the func tion of the club. Music was provided for dancing. Quartet Scheduled Sterling college Ambassa dors, a quartet directed by Leon Akin, professor of vocal music at the college, will pre sent a program of sacred and secular music at 8 p.m. Wed nesday, July 25, at the First Presbyterian church here. The group is on a ten-week tour, traveling through the southern and western United States. They will then return to the college in Sterling, Kan.
