Evans told police a browsing shopper lifted three of them before the store was closed. He left the case open so police could complete their fingerprint tests. When he returned to the shop the next morning, five more were missing. Value of the stolen merchandise is $1,600. Wheat Exports In State Decline Salem -IUPH- Wheat exports from Portland declined sharp ly in the export trade year which ended June 30, the Ore gon Agriculture department said today. Exports from Portland to taled 38.4 million bushels compared to 53.1 million bushels the previous year, and 48.8 million bushels two years ago. Total grain exports, with grain the runnerup to wheat, were also down. Total grain exports for the trade year just ended totaled just over 60 million bushels, down from the 64.8 million bushels last year, and the 71.9 million bushels two years ago. T. Ralph Berry, grain di vision chief for the depart ment, said Oregon wheat growers may lose some of the markets they have developed in Asia for white wheat unless they get relief under present federal wheat allotments. Minear Sees Higher School Finances Eugene -WPIu Dr. Leon P. Minear said Wednesday that by 1964-65 the state should be paying school costs based on $150 per census child, or 48 per cent, moving to 50 per cent thereafter. The stale superintendent of public instruction said the present state contribution to local school costs of $120 a census child should increase to $135 per census child by 1963-64, or $77 million, and 46 per cent of local school costs. He addressed a school fi nance workshop here on the University of Oregon campus. Minear said that more than 1,000 new classrooms will be needed in Oregon in the next biennium.
