JULY 2. 12 Shirley Mitchell Contends In State Links Semifinals Eugene 1UPI1 Defending champions Dick Price of Longview, Wash., and Carol Jo Kabler Skala of Roseburg played semifinal rounds today in the Oregon Amateur Golf tournament at the Eugene Country club. Price met Jack Mattison of Eugene in one men's semifin al round. Bruce Curid and Don Krieger, both of Port land, faced each other in the second men's round. In women's play, Mrs. Skala wont against Joan Edwards of Portland, while June Robin son of Corvallis met Shirley Siegmund Mitchell of Chico, Calif., and Mcdford. Grants Pass Legion Trips Cheney Studs urants i'ass-It s hard to tell week against Mcdford, came 'Ins season whether Grants Pass is a contender or a spoil er in its American Legion junior baseball race. Yesterday, the Mock Ford club did some spoiling and some contending, too. And, their efforts helped bunch up tighter the Area 4 Southern division chase. Grants Pass swept a twin bill here from the Central Point Cheney Studs' by scores of 5 to 4 and 2 to 0. Just the first fray counted in the divi sion standings. Mike Mille mann drove home Bob I eters for the winning tally with one out in the bottom of the extra eighth inning. Third Place Tie Mock Ford's first game tri umph cstablisned lor it a third place deadlock with Central Point. Each has a 3-3 loop record. They are just a game back of loop pacing Medford (4-2) and lag second spot Klamath Falcons (3-2) by but half a game. There was no scoring in yes lerday's league scramble un til the sixth inning. The Studs who missed an opportunity to take the league lead, got two runs in the top of the iiaiiie on a walk, Mike Glines' single at Pat Pepper's dou ble. Grants Pass came back with four in the bottom of the sixth on two misplays, singles oy Gary Reddick, Roy Standley and Millemann and a triple by Paul Blinka. Central Point lied the game at 4-all with two tabulations in the lop of the seventh can to. Runs came on a base on balls and safe blows by Neil., Rivenburc, Dick Halaas and Howard Tomlinson. McCormack Comej JMclc In the eighth inning for the Climate city crew, Standley walked but was forced at sec ond by Peters. Blinka singled and Millemann followed with the swat that broke up the Iracas. Pat Pepper, ilinka and Mil lemann each had two hits in the tussle. Jerry McCormack, who had a rough night last back against the Studs of CP with a seven-hit game in which he struck out nine and walked but two. Mike and Larry Pepper combined for an eight-hitter on the hill for the Studs. They totaled five strikeouts and three walks. Grants Pass scored once in the first inning of the second tilt on a Millemann single, a wild pitch and a Standley double. In the second inning Peters nil safely and made the base tour on two wild pitches and a groundout. Milleman, on the hill for Mock Ford, allowed the Chen ey nine only one bit. a sin gle by Mike Glines. Price advanced Sunday by defeating Bill Langley of Portland 1-up. Mattison de feated Larry Hirons of Eu gene 3 and 2. Cudd beat Ralph Dichter of Astoria 4 and 3. Krieger de feated Jerry Cundari of Eu gene 2-up. 1960 Champ Out Mrs. Skala on Saturday de fetated Sue Jennetl of Lake Oswego, the I960 champion, 2 and 1. Miss Robinson, the me dalist, was a 4 and 3 winner over Mrs. George Calderwood of Eugene. Mrs. Mitchell defeated Mrs. Lcs Darby. Portland. 4 and 3. and Miss Edwards took Mrs. Tom Harrison Jr., Port land, 2 and 1. The women were idle Sunday. Two other Oregon entries came in third in Sun day events. Tarr was timed at 13.6 as he edged teammate Hayes Jones. Keith Forman of Oregon came in third in the 3.000-me-ler steeplechase in final day events Sunday. The U.S. won the meet 131 81. Sharon Shepherd nf Maple ton, Ore., was third in the women's discus. Harry Millelle, of Mcd rord's Rogue Valley Country club, defeated DeRoss Kin kade, Cottage Grove, 5-3 in the first flight second round on Saturday. Then, Mickey Shaw, University of Oregon, downed Millelte 4-3 in the quarterfinals. Two other Rogue Valley Golfers lost second round first flight matches. Frank Isaac, Eugene, beat Dr. Bill Miller 2-up and Bob McRcynolds, Portland, beat Stew Schroe der on the 19th hole. In quar terfinals, Tom Teutsch, RVCC, lopped Claude Cause, Salem, on the 191h hole in the 10th flight. On Saturday Diane Kiesen dahl. Portland, beat Mrs. Miller in first flight play and Patty Dwyer. Portland, beat Mrs. S. A. Peters. Medford, 4-2. Mrs. Tom Teutsch, Rogue Valley, won from Mrs. John Bishop, Eugene, 3-2 in the second flight.
