J J y Phont 772-5281, Medford Phone 482-2116, Aihl.nd Second of a aeries of class reunions being given by grad uates of Medford High school took place June 23 at Kogue Valley Country club. The preceding week end the class of 1917 held a reunion din ner, last night members of the class of 1947 assembled at the Country club and a re union for the class of 19S2 is set for July 7, also at the clubhouse. A cocktail hour and buf fet dinner was held by the class of 1942, with 139 pres ent for the dinner. Several other members arrived at the club following dinner. H. .3. Webber, class president, was master of ceremonies for the program and highlight of this was the reading of a letter from a classmate who had not been able to attend grad uation. When it was an nounced that Jiro Shimoda had written to the group, a stir ran through the room. The class of 1942 was a "war" class this nation was engaged in World War II at the time and all Japanese had been assembled in concentra tion camps. Thus it was that young Jiro Shimoda, now living in De troit, Mich., was not with his fellow graduates in June of 1942 when they received their diplomas. He had been one of the most popular mem bers of the class, and it was recalled Saturday night that some expressed bitterness and believed he should not have been taken from school. The letter was read aloud, and this Is what Mr. Shimoda wrote: Classmate Writes "Again, 20 years later, I am unable to be with you to celebrate a wonderful occa sion, only this time, it's not a war but lime and distance. "I so wanted to bring the 'Mrs.' and four young ones two boys and two girls out west to the hometown, but an undertaking such as this would require three weeks by car or a plane trip. Three weeks with a two-year-old is rough and we couldn't leave him that long, and a plane trip would strain the budget for six. My wife, Margaret, wanted me to fly out alone, but that would mean no vaca tion for her. "Perhaps another year or two, we can undertake siKh a trip. I sincerely hope so, since it's been about 15 years since I visited Medford. "I wish to send my best wishes to all of you. I haven't forRotten you and every onre , in awhile I look through the old Crater year books at us in our younger days. ! "Thanks, again, for the In- ! vilation and I hope you all have a 'ball.' I'll be thinking of you that evening. In fact, that evening we plan to go across the river to Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to see Sam my Davis Jr., to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. "Say, if you've got any openings for a hot-shot CPA let me know. I'd love In move back west. These sultry sum mers and hay fever really get me down. "If any of you are ever out Detroit way, be sure In give j me a rail. I'm in Ihe Detroit phone hook. Have fun! Your old classmate, Jira Shimoda." Letters were also road from Dr Leonard Mayficld, i superinlendent of Medford 1 I schools, principal at the time i the class was graduated, and from Coach Bill Bowerman. , Present from the faculty were De Vere Taylor and Airs. Taylor, and Alex Mc Donald and Mrs. McDonald. Both men were on ttie faculty in 1942, and still are at the school. Prises Given Bill Frederick presented prizes. These went In Cato Wray.
