It seemed that some had surviv. ed the first poisoning of the pond by burrowing deep in the mud on the bottom. After the miserable showing that was the result of the first plant, the game commission decided to poison the lake again. This was done this spring and the pond is no longer toxic, and is ready for the second attempt to raise summer steelhead. ALL SET The pond is filling rapidly, and the game commission has been busy pouring concrete forms for the screens that will block all incoming end out going flows. The commission is planning to release about 114.000 summer steelhead fingerlings into the pond. They will grow "wild" until they reach their migration pe riod end then will be released below the pond into the stream that is a tributary of i the Rogue river. Let's hope 1 there will be more left this next time. FOR THE BIRDS ' Those . of us . who . enjoy , watching what eagles we have left in this state might be interested in knowing that the Senate commerce committee I has appointed a special com-1 mittee to consider two similar i bills, HJ resolution 489 by Congressman George A. Good ling and S3 resolution by Senator Ralph W. Yarborough and others, to protect the gold en eagle. Named to the group j along with Yarborough arc Senators Kenneth B. Keating (N.Y.) and Clair Engle, (Calif.) AN ILLEGAL EAGLE j Resolution passed the House in early April after a hear ing at which it was support ed broadly. In addition to giv ing needed protection to the golden eagle, now killed in some areas by hired shooters, the bill would provide a great er measure of security for the bald eagle, now decreasing, and which, in the first years of life, closely resembles the golden eagle. THE ANGLER'S LOG The game commission re ports that it is keeping the liberation trucks busy trying to plant 65,000 catchable and keepable rainbow for the 41h of July. The plants are being made in the North and South forks of the Rogue, as well as the main river. Plants are being made in the Applcgate river, and in Sucker creek, a tributary of the Illinois at Cave Junction. ntimond Lake Fishing Is Mill ftoor.
