Two co-medalists and last year's boys di vision champ were beaten in the first round of match play. Alan Hudspeth, co-medalist in the junior division from Prineville, was eliminated by Portland's Dick lverson, S and 3. Steve Morrison of Portland, co-medalist in the boys divi sion, was beaten on the 18th hole; 1-up, by Bob Rennie of Portland. Scott Smith of Lake Oswe go, Boys winner last year, lost to Don Murrow of Eugene, one-up. Four Ducks Named on All-America Eugene-HIPD-National cham pion Oregon got eight places and Oregon State one on the 54 - man college all-America track and field team an nounced today. Washington State got two places. Oregon placed Harry Jer ome in the 100 and 220, Jerry Tarr in the high and inter mediate hurdles, Mel Renfro in the high hurdles and broad jump, Dyrol Burleson in the mile and Mike Lchner in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Oregon State placed Dale Story in the three mile, while Washington Slate had Don Bertoia in the 880 and Elif Frederickson in the hop, step and jump. ANDREWS United Presi International They call him Merlin (The Magician) Nippert and it was quite a fancy trick the Seattle hurler performed in Pacific Coast league play Tuesday night. Nippert pitched three in nings in relief, retired nine men in order while whiffing three as Seattle turned back Salt Lake City 5-4 to move to within a game of the league-leading Bees. San Diego, also but one game out of first place, kept pace with an 8-5 win over Vancouver while in other games Portland blanked Ha waii 2-0 and Tacoma stopped Spokane 7-5. Nippert was credited with his fifth victory against one loss as Joe Theis won it for the Rainicrs with a solo ho mer in the eighth. Seattle had gone ahead 4-3 on another solo homer in the fourth on a 400-foot blast over the cen terfield fence by Dave Mann. A pair of walks and Jack Kubiszyn's double knotted it in the fifth to set the stage for the homer by Theis. Portlanders Combina Dale Willis and Dan Osin ski of Portland combined to blank Hawaii on two hits. Willis allowed a sixth-inning single to Tom Satriano and a single in the seventh to Ed die Haas. Tru-Mix, Schulz Softball Victors; Three-Way Tie There is no unbeaten team in the Jackson County Soft ball association. Tru-Mix Con crete took care of that last night by ending the spotless record of the Grants Pass Elks. The Mixers won 7 to 4. Keith Schulz Garage also tripped the Central Point Mer chants 9 to 5 and the net re sult was to create a three-way tie for first place in the asso ciation. It is shared by Grants Pass, Tru - Mix and Keith Schulz at 6-1 each. ' Barney Riggs' grand slam home run won the game for Tru-Mix. Chuck Marrs, Low ell Dean and Dick Ragsdale scored ahead of him in the bottom of the seventh inning. Each had drawn a base on balls. The winning run tallied with one out. Riggs also singled and dou bled for Concrete in his four times up and drove in five runs. Bill Werner hit four for four for the victors. Don Reese doubled and singled for Grants Pass.
