Minnesota Twins Just Three Per Cent Points Back of NY By MILTON RICHMAN UPI SporU Writer Some days it just doesn I pay to get out of bed and thai, in a nutshell, was the kind of day it turned to to be for poor Bo Belinsky, Billv Pierce and Stan Williams. All three went through sep arate ordeals Thursday and their collective misfortune would even bring tears .to a hobby horse. Belinsky, the good-time Charlie of the Los Ancelcs Angels, had insult added to injury when he was knocked out in the sixth inning by the Minnesota Twins after being fined S250 for some after hours hi-jinks. Before departing, Bo walk ed eight and trailed 3-2. The Angels tied the score in the seventh, taking him off the hook, but Lenny Greens ninth inning single off loser Art Fowler gave the Twins a 5-4 victory and boosted them within three percentage points of the Idle first-place New York Yankees. Reds Blank Giants Pierce suffered his second defeat as the Cincinnati Reds blanked the San Francisco Gi ants. 8 0, on Joey Jay's three hitler, but that wasn't the worst part of i' Trying to cover first base in the first inning. Pierce, who has been the Giants' most con sistent pitcher with eight vic tories, suffered a spike injury by Don Blasingamg that re quired 12 stitches and will keep him out of action for at least 10 days. Kansas City out scored Chicago, 11-8. and Baltimore defeated Boston. ( 7- 4, in the American league. Carl Warwick's two-run homer highlighted a seven run first inning rally that kay oved Jay Hook of the Mcts and made it a breeze for the Colls. Bob Bri.cc registered his fifth victory for Houston, allowing six hits, including a homer by Marv Throneberry. Don Hoak collected his 1, nnoth major league hit in the first inning, an infield single, and then belled a three-run homer in the fifth to pace the Pirates lo their sixlh straight win. Bob Friend, whose rec ord now is 7-7, held the Cubs to six hits, two of which were homers by Billy Wil liams and Ron Santo. Danny O'Conncll's eighth- Mat Card Main Event Arranged Fritz Von G o e r i n g, the tough German who holds the northwest championship, will take on Luther Lindsey, burly colored ace, in the main event of next Thursday night's wres tling card at Medford armory. Negotiations are under way to attempt to induce Pat O'Connor, recognized as the national champion, to come to Mrdford in July and if the move is successful, the winner of the Von Goering-Lindsey match will be offered the shot at O'Connor. A tag team match featuring four of the country's top midtct slars is in the making and Promoter Elton Owen ex pects to complete arrange ments Saturday. The opener will introduce Hrrbie Freeman, a chiroprac tic student in Portland, against an opponent yet to be named. ANDREWS United Press International Tommy Harper and rookie pitcher John Flavin put in a full night's work for San Di ego Thursday night and their efforts helped put the Padres right on top of the Pacific Coast league. Harper's homer in the bot tom of the 12th combined with Flavin's six-hitter carried the Padres to a 3-2 win over Salt Lake City and shoved the Bees into the second slot. In other action, Tacoma blanked Vancouver 5-0, Ha waii handed Spokane a double dose of the same 6-0 and 5-0 and Seattle and Portland split. Portland took the opener 6-5 and Seattle won the nightcap 3-2 in 14 innings. Hal Jones homered In the second to give Salt Lake a 1-0 lead but Harper's triple and Jesse Gonder's single tied it in the third. After Salt Lake moved ahead 2-1, Bobby Klaus sent it into overtime with a solo homer in the sixth. Eighth Homer Harper ended il with his eighth homer of the year. Flavin won his second against no losses. Gaylord Perry, just down from the San Francisco Gi ants, tamed Vancouver on four hits. John Orsino hit a solo homer in the fourth and Perry was never in any trou ble. Dick Egan and Roger Clapp of Hawaii did Spokane in. Egan allowed but four hits in winning the opener with Car los Bernier's two-run double highlighting a three run Is lander third inning. Clapp gave up seven hits but fanned six and walked but two. He stayed out of trouble until the ninth when Spokane managed to load the bases. Clapp, who drove in two of Hawaii's runs, man aged lo preserve his shutout. Dick Barone drove in two runs in the eighth for the win ners. Jay Hankins singled in the bottom of the seventh to drive in the run that gave Portland its first game victory over Se attle.
