winners Tuesday at the party
for the Crater High school
track and field team.
Outstanding perform a n c e
awards went to Bransom and
Jannusch. Recognized as most
improved track man was Jan
nusch. Award for outstanding
effort and sportsmanship went
to Swanson.
Jannusch was second in jav
elin competition in the Ore
gon Class A-l high school
track meet and Bransom was
third in the state meet broad
jump. Cwanson was a quarter
miler for the Comets and he
and Bransom also were relay
runners.
About 109 persons attended
the party.

Grants Pass (UPD Johnny
Walker, Trinidad, Calif.,
Wednesday won the fourth
annual Boatnik hydroplane
race on the Rogue river.
Twenty-four outboard
powered small hydroplanes
participated in the 50-mile
race from Grants Pass to Ga
lice and back. Walker's time
was one hour 43 25 seconds.
Second was Byron Grant,
Hoopa, Calif, followed by
Delmer Kyle, Gold Beach;
Dick Freeman, Crescent City,
Calif.; and Vernon Magda
lena, Hoopa, Calif.
Walker collected $1,000 for
his victory. Another $1,000
was divided among the next
four finishers.

field. Over 100 schools have
entered close to 600 athletes
for the national collegiate
meet.
The host Webfoots, along
with defending champion

ern powerhouse Villanova,
rate as the teams to watch in
the battle for national track
and field supremacy.

Ducks will rely heavily on de
fending individual champions

Tarr, holder of the Ameri
can collegiate record of 13.3,
