William Friend, Grantj Pass, and an installation team from Grants Pass assisted In the ceremonies. Fred Beck is the new com mander of the Medford post. Charles R. Draper, Albany, state commander, was in Med for for the ceremonies. Other officers installed are: John Weber, first vice com mander; Glen Lusk, second vice commander; Eugene Orr, adjutant; Earl Bigalow, fi nance officer; Elmer Ness, chaplain; Ralph Ettel, his torian, and Tex Nash, five yea r executive committee member. A no - host dinner was served Saturday night In the Medford American Legion hall. The American Legion auxiliary officers were also installed. Two Auto Crashes Kill 11 in Nevada Carson City, Nev. - IUPII -Eleven persons were killed and nine others injured in two accidents during the week end on the Nevada sec tion of Highway 40, according to the Nevada Highway Pa trol, Eight persons were killed and five injured Sunday in a three-car accident near Wells in the eastern part of the slate. The crash occurred on a straight stretch of high way in clear weather and is under Investigation. One car carried eight per sons, six of whom were killed and two injured. The driver of the car, George D. Myers, 20, and one of the passengers, Brcnda L. Migliacclo, 21, were taken to Elko General hospital in serious condition. Patrolmen said Myers' car collided with a westbound ve hicle, taking the lives of Ed win Samulewitsch, 32, and his wife, Hannelore, 24, both of Oakland, Calif. It then struck a third car, injuring Ihrce members of a Live Oak, Calif., family. Three persons were killed and five Injured Saturday when two cars collided head on at an overpass near Fern Icy in western Nevada. Goldberg Lauds Private Schools Portland - IUPII - Labor Sec retary Arthur Goldberg, wrapping up a three-day visit to the Pacific Northwest, Sun day lnudcd the role of the private university in "our pluralistic society." He was the principal speak er at the University of Port land commencement exer cises. He received an honor ary degree. Goldberg said "I would not want to see the day when education eminates only from public schools as great as has been their contribution to our society." He added thai "regardless of one's view on the very con troversial question of federal aid to education, there can be no argument as to the great contribution of private col leges and universities" to the world. Edgar Bergen's Son Christened Hollywood - WNI - Edgar Bergen's B-monlh-old son was christened Sunday while his godfather, Jack Benny, held him in his arms. The Rev. Melvin Wheally officiated at the brief cere mony in the Wilshire Metho dist Church attended by about 20 family friends, Including Dick Powell, June Allyson and musician Johnny Greene.
