Falls- Grants Pass high, as expected, grab bed the largest portion of the honors here Saturday in the District 6 A-1 track meet, de- spite a number of surprises. Rolling up a massive total of 191 13 points, the Cave men collected a total of 18 berths for the state champi onship session next week end at Corvallis. And, they were fur ahead of the rest of the field in the total points of this district affair. Medford was far back in second plance with 89 13 points. Crater tabulated 76, Klamath Falls 40 and Ash land 20 13. Burnum, Tom Hobbs and Wassom, a double touts and walked two Medford pitchers limited the Roseburg club to two hits in the five-inning finisher and the Indians used both of them for their runs. They got two in the first Inning on a single by Hobbs, an error, a wild pitch, two walks and a field- the Pels, bettered standards which have stood since 1934 when he won the 100-yard dash in 9.7 and the 220 in 22.1 for his team's only en tries in state. Marty Bauer took the shot put for GP with 50 feet 10 '4 Myrtle Creek Vikings Garner District 6 A-2 Track Crown; St. Mary's Second in Meet Ashland Myrtle Creek high, headed by Ross Bark hurst and Ed Cadman won its first District 6 A-2 track and field diadem here Satur day. Barkhurst and Cadman each captured two first places and Cadman gained a second and anchored the second place relay team as the Vikings piled up 88 points to outscore St. Mary's of Medford by 22 markers. St. Mary's 66 was followed by Rogue River's 54, Phoenix's 52 and Eagle Point's 40 In the 12 team field. Four records fell In the meet and a fifth was tied. St. Mary's equaled Myrtle Creek in total first places with four. Eagle Point took two and Lakeview, Phoenix, Rogue River and Sutherlin each one. The Vikings gained eight berths in the state tour ney, St. Mary's six. Rogue River qualified for four, Phoe nix three, Eagle Point and Lakeview two and Douglas, Glendale and Sutherlin one apiece. First and second placers qualified for trips to the Ore gon A-2 meet next Friday and Saturday at Corvallis. The weather was not par ticularly conducive to record smashing. Mixed rain, snow and sleet fell at the start and at the finish of the meet on the Southern Oregon college field. Barkhurst was first in the 100 and 220-yard dashes and second in the discus. Cadman won the 880 along with the mile. SM hurdler was the oc casion's only other double winner. Other Champs Other St. Mary's firsts were by the relay team of Tom Darland, Jim Webb, Joe Kai ser and Elliot and by J 1 m Calhoun in the javelin. Darrell Stock nabbed the other of the two Eagle wins by taking the discus. Cham- McLoughlin Winner Of Freshman Title McLoughlin Junior High school of Medford, spurred by John Tungate, who tabulated 28 points, won the Southern Oregon District Freshman track meet on Friday after noon at Ashland. Tungate won the shot put and discus for Mac and fin ished second behind teammate Greg Dippel in the javelin. Frank Toews won the 660 for the Bulldogs. Mullen Sets Mark For Klamath Falls, Eccles won the broad jump and De Groot the 150-yard sprint. Eccles and Baker, also of Klamath, tied for first in the high jump. Klamath's relay team was victorious. Jack Mullen set a new school record of 3:26.4 in win ning the 1,320-yard run for Hedrick of Medford. Other Hedrick victor was Dave Durant In the low hurdles. For North Grants Pass Pat Howe took the 75 and Ralph Graham the 330. Don Sum mers, South Grants Pass was the high hurdle champion. In addition to winning the broad jump Cossey was second in the javelin for Lakeview. Curt Harris was second in the high hurdles for a Phoenix state meet spot. Rogue River seconds were by Theron Stichl in the shot, Tom Wright in the 100 and Chris Jones In the 220. Other seconds were by Douglas Dodd, Douglas, in the low hurdles and by Darrell Wor ley, Glendale, in the 880. Added to Champ's win in the low hurdles for Crater was Paul Bransom's first in the broad jump and Dwight James's verdict in the high jump for the Comets. Eaton Knots Shepherd Grants Pass garnered eight of its state berths on second places. Medford three seconds and a share of one and Crater two. Medford's Eaton tied with the high jump favorite, Bob Shepard, Grants Pass, for a second at 5-10 and will go to state on the basis of less misses than the Caveman. Other runnersup for Med ford were the aforementioned Paul Bauer, in the shot, Scott Hampson in the 440 and Hi Martin in the mile. George Jannusch gained a No. 2 spot for Crater in the javelin and the Comets were second in the relay. GP seconds included Den nis O'Leary in the broad jump and low hurdles, Bob Wilson in the high hurdles, Richard Ireland in the 100 and 220, Montgomery in the half and a share by Dan Mc Intire and Vlck Van Koten in the pole vault with Dan Lewis, Ashland. Either Van Koten or Mclntire will go to state. Muller Qualifies Crater qualified Dick Mul ler for state in the javelin because his 190-8 third place beat the requirement of 190. Since the first five in the high hurdles were 14.8 or un Champ and either O'Leary der (the standard is 15.0) or Randy Clark, GP, can go to state along with Eaton and Wilson. ' Grants Pass coach Russ Werner must pick be tween O'Leary and Clark be cause only two from a school can enter an event at Cor vallis. O'Leary was third yes terday and Clark filth. Among third placers who also made state are Hampson, Medford, with a 10.1 century and Gil Smith, GP, with a 19.75 low hurdle clocking. SIPdDMTS er'i option.
