Mothers
Announce
Scholarships
Oregon State University
Mothers' club has announced
that 16 tuition scholarships
will be given for the 1962-63
school year. This news was
brought back by Mrs. H.
Chandler Drew, Medford, and
, Mrs. R. G. Tabor, Ashland,
after attending a meeting of
the executive board of the
club held in Corvallis.
Among the 16 winners are
Miss Patricia Thompson,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Thompson,. Ashland,
and Miss Mimi Jones, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Jones, Route 1, Box 358, Tal
ent. Miss Thompson is a Jun
ior in education and Miss
Jones is a junior in home eco
nomics. Miss Jones will leave
June 22 for Honolulu, Ha
waii, where she will be assist
ant water front director for a
Cirl Scout camp during the
summer.

James Jensen of OSU. He
. spoke of the need of chang
ing traditions in order to meet
present-day needs of the
school. He also stated that
there is a need for more stu
dents to work towards teach
ing on the higher levels
since there are inadequate re
sources to staff colleges.
The club voted In favor of
combining the traditional
Dads' and Mothers' week ends
into a Parents' week end at
the university.

Meeting Slated
Student skills will be fea
tured at the regular meeting
of the McLoughlin Parent
Teacher association, Thurs
day, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. The
meeting will be held in the
boys' gymnasium at the
school.
Displays from the arts and
crafts, woodworking shop,
science, and geography classes
will be set up at the rear of
the room. Girls of Miss Ruth
Osborn's sewing classes will
demonstrate articles they have
made in a style show. Re
freshments, to be served in
the cafeteria after the meet
ing, will be prepared and
served by members of the
homemaklng classes under
the direction of Mrs. Mary
McKenna.
Preceding the program a
brief business meeting will be
hold, and officers for the
1962-63 year will be installed.
New officers are president,
Mrs. William G. Travis; vice
president, Mrs. Walter Olson;
secretary, Arthur Iverson, and
treasurer, Mrs. Louise Davis.
Installing officer will be Mrs.
William Siebert.

Maddox was chairman of the
project with Mrs. Goss as co
chairman. A rummBge sale
will be the final activity of
the group this school term.

Dringman returned to her
home in Ft. Jones, Calif., last
week after spending several
weeks here with her grand
mother, Mrs. Tony Shelley
and Mr. Shelley. She at'.ended
the local elementary school
while here.

Happy Camp Officers for
the coming year of the Happy
Camp Parent-Teacher associa
tion were installed at the last
regular meeting of the year
held last week.
Coming from Yreka to in
stall the officers was Mrs.
Edna Barr, district parliamen
tarian and state homemaking
chairman, who gave a brief
speech on the aims of t h e
PTA and accomplishments of
the national organization.

In other business, a letter
was rend from Fire Chief
Frank Lootcn, thanking the
PTA for a donation to the
Leon Higlcy fund in lieu of
flowers for the Higlcy funeral.
According to Mr. Looten, two
asbestos fire suits were pur
chased through the donations
of the Happy Camp people
,o the fund.
It was voted to set up a
committee of three persons to
head the well baby clinic.
The grand prize of the low
er show was awarded lo Bon
nie Simmonds. Making the
award was Mrs. C. E. Poli-
kowsky, one ol the Judges.
The other two judges for the
event were Mrs. Clinton Nor-
cross of Happy Camp, and
Mrs. Fred Krupp of Klamath
river. The judges spent the
entire afternoon preceding the
meeting, selecting first, sec
ond, third, fourth and honor
able mention prizes in each
of the classes of the elemen
tary school.

play in the auditorium for the
meeting, with the grand pnte
selected from these first
priies.
In the way of announce
ments the high school princi
pal, James Foolp announced
the following activities. May
15, annual Arion Award con
cert, and also. May 15, Base
ball game, Yreka versus Hap
py Camp here, last home
game of the season. Mr.
Koote also thanked the PTA
for the $200 donation toward
the purchase of the bleachers
for the Athletic field. Mr.
Foote also announced that the
next immunization clinic will
be held here May 24 at 1 p m.
Another clinic will probably
be held in October, he said
for those needing the third
polio shot. Graduation exer-

was the chapter president,

Woods and Mrs. Herbert
Lewis.
Mrs. Glenn Taylor, a mem
ber, and her husband present
ed a group of four piano and
violin selections appropriate
to the day's theme. Miss Tru
dee Lewis gave a reading
dedicated to mothers and Miss
Carol Bjork concluded the
program with an original dis
sertation in defense of the tall
girl. Miss Lewis and Miss
BJork are high school forensic
team members.
Several group games and
contests were played before
refreshments were served at
small tables marked by indi
vidual flower corsages. The
room was decorated with tall
baskets and vases of deep
lavender lilacs and white
spirea.

A coffee hour is planned
May 27 to honor members of
the church choir following
the worship hour. At the cof
fee hour the secret pals of
choir members will be reveal
ed and WSCS members will
escort their secret choir pal
to the refreshment table. The
choir will recess for the sum
mer after that date.
It was announced that the
Rev. E. J. Aschenbrenner,
superintendent of the Eugene
district, will attend the fourth

ing of the group. This in
cluded the annual pledge serv
ice at which time members
indicated the amount each in
