ORlifcON sipgpMTrs District 5B Crown Won By Prospect; Defeat Merrill 2-1 Central Point-Prospect high was crowned District 5B base ball champ here yesterday. The Cougars trimmed Mer rill 2 to 1 in a playoff tangle between the Jackson and Klamath county winners. This is the first district dia mond toga in history for Pros pect. All the scoring in the titular game was in the sixth inning. The Cougar runs were on a two-baser by Bob Scott, a sin gle by Terry Gardner and a double by Bill Johnson. Merrill's one run was on a single by Kurtz, a walk and two errors. Wallace Nye tossed five-hit ball for Prospect. He walked Crater JV Victor Over Eagle Point Eagle Point - Two walks, a wild pitch and a double by John Weiser provided the runs last night when the Crater junior varsity baseball nine edged Eagle Point varsity 2 to 0. The runs came in the sev enth and final inning. John Bush threw one -hit ball'for the Comets. He walk ed two batters and struck out six. Roger Bartlett singled for the lone Eagle safety. Coach Duane Payne's Cou gars now will go against the District 6B winner in state playoffs. Prospect will be the host team for the quarterfinal. There was no information available on who the quarter final foe of Prospect might bei District 6 includes central and north central Oregon. Prospect gained the district playoff with victories over Butte Falls in the Jackson county runoff series. Merrill took its league title in Klam ath county.
