We, the undersigned citizens of Jackson
county, with membership in both political
parties, have carefully studied the Home Rule
Charter and urge its adoption. It is a first es
sential step toward modernizing an out-dated
government. Even more important, under the
Charter, we can truly run our own affairs,
democratically.

Girt Scouts
Troop 88
Girl Scout Troop 88 held
a Court of Awards at Roose
velt school auditorium. The
girls opened the program
with a flag ceremony and
song, followed by a welcome
by the leader, Mrs. Harold
Hewlett. A candlelighting
ceremony and recitation of
the Girl Scout Laws was
held with each girl partici
pating. Mrs. William L. White
spoke briefly on summer
camping. Second class ranks
were awarded, followed by
singing under the direction
of Mrs. Jerry Gastineau. Mrs.
George Gannon was in charge
of refreshments.
Other recent activities of
the troop include an open
discussion concerning Ger

to Germany, led the discus
sion and answered questions
of interest to the girls. Last
week the troop learned to
"boondoggle" and made a
bracelet using this skill of
weaving plastic strips into in

ris Lawrence taught the skill,
assisted by Mrs. T. J. Morris,
Mrs. White and Mrs. Hewlett.
Brownie Troop 139
A Japanese study for inter

at low tables with cushions
to sit upon at the second meet
ing, and Japanese clogs were
made and worn at the third
one.
Flannel figures were made
to depict "Brownie Treas
ures" and at the April 13
Roosevelt PTA meeting the
flannclgraph was shown with
each girl adding her own
Brownie treasure as she told
of it. The troop has enjoyed
several skating parties recent
ly. They also participated in
the Girl Scout cookie sale.
At present the troop is di
divided into three groups, one
to cook refreshments, one to
be hostesses, and one group
as guests. These groups will
rotate and after three meet
ings each will have had a turn
at each project.
A mothers' tea for Troop
139 is planned for May 17
from 3 to 4 p.m. at the home
of Mrs. John Drysdale, 417
