the Sunday School hour, rec
ognition w ill be given to 'the
mothers of the church. The
mother of the year will be
selected and honored at thii

The pastor of the church,
the Rev. B. E. Andrews, an
nounced that May 20 will be
"Homecoming Sunday" and
will be the last service to be
held in the church building.
The church has been sold and
will be demolished to make
way for a Park and Shoo lot.

Festival Observed
The Congregational church,

Christian Home Sunday at its

The third annual mission
ary convention for First As
sembly of God will get under
way Friday, May 18. The Her

Volta, French West Africa,
for the past ten years will

service and will show pictures
taken of Upper Volta. Mr.
and Mrs. Engelgau and their

Meet in New Chureh Sunday
Ashland-For the first time
in 83 years there will be no

the Presbyterian church at
the corner of Helman and
Main sts. The old bell that
has called worshipers to the
frame building near the down
town plaza will be silent. In
stead, the doors of a new
church will be open,
The contemporary style
sanctuary and adjoining edu
cational buildings have been
erected on a 2 'i -acre site at
the corner of Siskiyou blvd,
and Walker ave. The archi
tects, Edson and Pappas of
Medford, took full advantage
of the tree covered corner
in their plans, and the land,
scape architect, C. E. Corry
Ashland, has developed sur
roundings indigeous to
southern Oregon
The steep roofed sanctuary
with a seating capacity of 300
Is connected to the lower
buildings by covered walk
ways. All are constructed en
tirely of native regional ma
terials. Included in the educational-administration
group
are a kindergarten, nursery,
parlor and kitchenette with
fireplace, the pastor's study
with fireplace, an office and
various smaller storage and
rest room facilities.
Emphasis on space and sym
bolism is evident in the high-
ceiling and the cedar panel
ing of the sanctury. The wide
center aisle leads to the raised
chancel and communion table.

Set Date of Annual
Vacation School
June 11 has been set as the
opening date for the annual
religious vacation school for
Roman Catholf" children not
enrolled in the local paroch
ial school, according to an
announcement by the Very
Rev. Carl Mai.
Classes will be held each
morning, Monday . through
Friday, for a two week pe
riod, ending June 22. All
Catholic children attending
public schools in the Medford
area, grades one through
eight, are expected to take
part in these religious train
ing sessions, Father Mai said.
Children not of the Catholic
faith are welcome to enroll
in the classes also.

ternity of Christian Doctrine,
the vacation school Is con
sidered an essential supple
ment to the rc'iar Saturday
catechism classes conducted
each week d 'ng the school
year. Teachers are lay mem
bers of the CCD, assisted and
advised by sir--s from the
St. Mary schools. Others help
ing with the program are
Sodalists of St. Mary High
school and CCD Helpers com
mittee members who make
teaching aids and provide
transportation for teachers
and students.
This year's chairman of
teachers is Mrs. LeRoy Stuart.

Fellowship Supper
Planned in Talent
Talent- The fellowship sup
per for May will be held to
night by the congregation of
the Talent Methodist church
in the annex. The event will
start at 6:30 o'clock and its
theme will be "Family Living.
Dr. Loren Messenger will
show pictures, featuring some
of the children at Sunday
school which he has taken
during the past several years.
The supper will be potluck.
A Mother's day program is
being planned by the primary
dep-rtment Sunday at 10
a.m. Mothers will be honored.

in southern Oregon settle

creek, and continued as pastor
until 1877 when the Rev. S.
B. Donaldson arrived front
the east and began his minis
try in the old south school.

sold the building and manse

and Berkeley Way. George
Weir, chairman of the
church's board of trustees, haa
announced the acquisition of
the three acre tract on which
the church plans to build new
facilities within the next twe
years. ",
The church has been con
sidering the purchase of a
new building site since last
fall. Weir said, and On Mareh
20, the membership approved
and accepted the recommen
dation of the building com
mittee. The property on Jack
son st. is just two blocks east

school.
Plans for the erection dt
new worship and educational
facilities are under way. Weir
said. The building committee,
with Gatewood G. Smith as
chairman, is now discussing
design with architects. The
Building Fund Canvass com
mittee, under the leadership
of Dr. M. Donald McOeary, ia
making arrangements for a
capital funds canvass of the
membership early in October.
It is expected the protect
will start within a year and
be completed by the end of
