Deaths of Men Connected With Estes Case Being Studied

Texans who had contacts with
Billie Sol Estes and his vast
farm and financial operations.
The Investigators are not
satisfied with local decisions
on the deaths. One was ruled
a suicide and the other from
heart disease.
A source on the Senate in
estigatlng subcommittee under
Sen. John L. McClellan (D
Ark.) confirmed an inquiry
was under way in the deaths
of Henry Marshall and George
A. Krutilek.
Marshall, an Agriculture
Department official, was
found dead June 3, 1961, from
five bullet wounds from a
rifle that had to be pumped
each time it was fired. The
body lay near Marshall's pick
up truck in a field near his
Franklin, Tex., home. The
death was called a suicide.
Marshall heseied the Texas
Agriculture Stabilization
Service, which approved the
arrangements which Estes al
legedly used to get around the
law prohibiting the sale of
cotton allotments.

The other death of El Paso
accountant George A. Kruti.
lek - is almost equally mysterious.
Krutilek was an accountant
for several large landholders
and farmers in the Pecos,
Tex., area who had dealings
with Estes. His body was
found April 4 in a car near
Clint, Tex.
Congressional investigators
have not completed their in-'
quiries, and are unable at this
time to conclude whether Kru.
tilck might have been able to
shed any light on the Estes
affair if he had lived.
But they are curious
enough about the circum
stances surrounding the death
to look Into it thoroughly.
Officially, pathologist Fred
Bornstcin ruled April 9 that
Krutilek died of heart disease
and thcp was nothing to in
dicate any violence. But,
Bornstein added, the body
had deteriorated so badly
that a definite autopsy was
impossible.
Sources said Tuesday that

partment officials are under
investigation in connection
with the Estes case.

j tions subcommittee both are
j looking into possible relation
ships between the two offi
cials and Estes Enterprises.
Both men denied they had
'anything to do with matters
pertaining to Estes while they
were in government.

ing at Mansfield, Pa., and

FOREIGN LEGION TO QUIT ALGERIA
Paris - ilirii - The Foreign Legion will be withdrawn
from Algeria "immediately." the Paris newspaper Le Figaro
said today.
The report said some units of the Legion would bt sent
to Djibouti, French Somaliland, and the rest to Diego-Suares,
Malagasy.
