Hours will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Admission will be free. Demonstrations are planned and prizes will be offered. Ribbons will be awarded in all classes in both the Junior and senior divisions, accord ing to Mrs. Charles Long, show chairman. Among those having ex hibits will be Mrs. Ellis Bee son of Carmen's Ceramics, and six of her pupils, and "Corky" Knight, Klamath Falls. Shops In Central Point, Ashland, Grants Pass and Glendale will also send ex hibits. The American Mothers com mittee gave Mrs. Clara Sproat Glenn, 65, New Concord, Ohio, an extraordinary award in recognition of the home train ing, guidance and love she provided her hero son. Mrs. Glenn previously had been named Ohio Mother of 1962 and was one of the 50 state mothers attending the com mittee's annual pre-Mothers' day convention at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel. The committee gave its rcgulnr American mother award to Mrs. Mary Celesta Weatherly, 70, who was the Alabama Mother of 1962. Mrs. Weatherly, mother of three and grandmother of seven, was cited for her work among literates and semiliterates Dekalb county, Alabama, where she has been active in many community and volun teer welfare projects. The awards were announced today by Mrs. Daniel A. Pol ing, president of the commit tee, who said Mrs. Glenn's in fluence on her son had helped make him "a symbol of inner spiritual security, of courage and manliness for all mankind to admire and emulate." Mrs. Glenn was the mother of three, but lost two of her children at birth. She and her husband, who was with her when she was named American mother, adonted a aaughter, who is now Mrs. Jean Pinkston, a widow, Cam bridge, Ohio. Mrs. Glenn has three grandchildren. Lions Auxiliary At Butte Falls Erects Officers Butte Falls Mrs. Andv Hamstra was elected presi dent of the Butte Falls Lions club auxiliary at a meeting May 1 in the Hamstra home. Mrs. Shirley Hatcher was elected vice president; Mrs. Allan Pingle, secretary; Mrs. Henry Tygart, treisuror, and Mrs. Robert Driskell, tall twister. insinuations will be con ducted during the June meet ing to be held in the home of Mrs. Roger Harris. Robert Dames of the Med ford American Legion spoke on Boys State and the group voted to sponsor a candidate. Changes in the group's by laws were read. She is a branch which honored her organizations. She is vice pres ident of the Future Nurses as sociation and expects to enter training at Emanuel hospital, Portland, after graduation. She was Homecoming prin cess, is a member of Quill and Scroll, a member of the Pep club, and the Student council, and belongs to the Seniorettes, girls' singing group. Miss Joy Hinkson, the winner of the previous six-weeks' title, presented the pin and Mrs. Marjorie Peterson conducted the ceremony. All of the high school senior girls who have been named for BPWC honor during the year are to be entertained with their mothers at a tea May 26, from 2-4 p.m. in Trinity Par ish hall. At the business session con ducted by the president, Mrs. Jacqueline Lewis, officers for the ensuing year were elected. Chosen president was Miss Ruth Bebber. Serving with her will be Mrs. Virginia Wes- tcrfield, first vice president; Mrs. Beatrice Lindsay, second vice president; Mrs. blaine Duffy, secretary, and Mrs. Sylvia Snyder, treasurer. Plans were made to attend the state convention in Eugene May 18 and 19, and to begin arrangements for a Fourth of July float. The new officers will be installed next month. Sunshine Girls To Hold Dinner Talisman Rosebud council. Pythian Sunshine Girls, hve planned a covered dish din ner at the Pythian hall Thurs day. May 10. at 6:30 p.m. It will honor mothers of mem bers in observance of Moth ers' day. Dinner will be followed by a business meeting and instal lation of officers who will serve for the coming six months. The public is invited to attend the ceremony. Miss Barbara Kadin will be install ing officer. Women's Fellowship To Meet on Thursday Women's Fellowship of the Congregational church will meet at 12 noon, Thursday, May 10. at Pilgrim house. Those attending are to take sack lunches and the hostesses will serve dessert and bev erages. Any interested woman will be welcome. A short business meeting and program wilt follow luncheon. (.antral Officers Announced For PTSA Eagle Point Mrs. Leroy Bedingfield was elected presi dent of the Eagle Point Ele mentary Parent-Teacher asso ciation for the 1962-63 school year at a recent meeting. Oth er officers-elect are Mrs. Rob ert Holman, vice president; Mrs. Leonard A. Modee, sec retary; Mrs. James Clark, treasurer, and Mrs. Gordon Peck, historian. Artistic, musical and physi cal accomplishments of the grade school students were featured on the student par ticipation program. Rich ard Swinney, faculty member. gave a brief outline of the aims of the departmentalized physical education program which is under the direction of Richard Wolgamott. Safety as well as form was emphasized in the exhibition on the trampoline by students Jack Love Jr., William Har per, Dale McFall, Richard Coryell and Kenneth Correll. Work on the parallel bars was done by Jary Hansen, Thad Bedingfield and Rick Matthews. Rope climbing techniques were illustrated by Edwin Beacham, Terry Smith and Ronnie Kunkel. Give Preview The intermediate chorus led by Keith Krambeal and ac companied by Ralph Humph rey, gave a preview of the songs they would sing at the May Day Spring Sing. Mr. Krambeal conducted the grade school band through seven selections ranging from traditional marches to polkas and cha cha chas. Pictures and other artistic creations made by children of all eight grades were on display in the cafeteria. Robert Work, principal of the grade school, reported that the building program for the new primary school is well under way. He called at tention to the events on the May calendar including the School District 9 Budget elec tion and the election of a school board member on May 7. The voting booths will be set up In the high school gym nasium and regular voting polls of the other district pre cincts. The band will give a con cert in the gymnasium on May 17 and preschool regis tration day is May 23. He an nounced that school closes on June 6. The flag salute was led by Mrs. William Short's Blue Bird group. The Rev. Warren Christensen gave the words of inspiration. Refreshments were served by mothers of the third grade children. Skit Planned For Assistants A skit depicting the trials and tribulations of a hospital admission office will be the major portion of the program when the Jackson County Medical assistants meet Thurs day, May 10, at the Girls Community club at 8 p.m. The entire evening will be in charge of members em ployed at valley hospitals. President Josephine Koppes will preside for the business meeting to follow at which additional plans for the state convention will be set forth as well as plans for the annual meeting to be held in June. Hostesses for the evening will be Mesdames Martha Larimer, Juanita Sled and Gladys Rice. Officers Installed For Prospect Group Prospect - Prospect Home Extension unit installed of ficers at the last meeting held at the home of Mrs. Roy Vaughn. Mrs. Everett Shafer installed Mrs. Gordon Ander son, chairman; Mrs. Vernon Haddeland, vice chairman; Mrs. Larry Williams, secre tary; Mrs. Harry Sanford, treasurer. SOC Music Department Plans Operetta Ashland - "Down in the Valley," an operetta, will be presented by the Southern Oregon college Populaires, May 11 and 12 in Churchill auditorium. The opera was composed by Kurt Weill, who is credited with such Broad way hits as the "Three Penny Opera" and "Mack the Knife." The plot, set in a farm community, is based on a ro-' mancc between Brack Weav er, played by Don Macpher son, Medford, and Jennie, por trayed different nights by Lynn Ferrell, Klamath Falls, Mothers Week End Set at SOC Ashland Mothers Week end at Southern Oregon col lege, sponsored by the Asso ciated Women Students, will be May 11, 12 and i3. "Accent on Art" is this year's theme and will feature an art ex hibit. Registration will begin Saturday morning followed by an assembly and a luncheon at the Mark Antony hotel. Also planned are a coffee hour, style show, tea, campus tours, and entertainment. Fri day and Saturday evening the SOC music department will present an operetta, Kurt Weill's "Down in the Valley," and scenes from three other operas. De Molay Chapter To Hold Dinner Medford chapter. Order of De Molay, will hold a pot luck dinner Wednesday, May 9. at 6 p.m. at the Masonic teiple. After dinner Master Coun cillor Mike Fetherston will conduct a short meeting and entertainment will be provid ed for the guests in the chap ter room. The dinner is for De Molays. their families and guests. All those from the various Ma sonic organizations who are interested in De Molay are cordially invited to attend. The modern dance class will also perform under the direction of Prof. Beverley Bennett of the phy sical education department. Prior to the 45-minute opera, short scenes from Puc cini's "La Boheme" and Madam Butterfly," and Hum- perdink's "Hansel and Gretel" will be presented. There will be no admission charge and the public is in vited to attend. Townsend Club Names Delegates For Convention Voting delegates to the na tional convention of the Town- send, to be held later this year in Bellingham, 'Wash., were elected av the last meet ing of the Medford club. They are L. C. Rusho, presi dent, Walter Townsend, Mrs. Florence Boussum, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Naffziger, Mrs. Pearl Austin, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Biphop. A number of non-official delegates were also named and the group plans to make up a caravan of cars to travel to the meet ing. The Medford club has two activities on the ci""ndar this week. The weekly session will be held Wednesday, May 9, at the Pythian building, and a public dance will be held Fri day, May 11, also at the hall. The auxiliary will take charge of the Wednesday meeting. Luncheon will be served at 12 o'clock, a busi ness meeting will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. and dancing will conclude the afternoon. The Friday dance is being planned to raise funds to send delegates to the national con vention, and is also in charge of auxiliary members. Dinner Planned For Auxiliary The auxiliary to the Jack son County Medical society will meet Wednesday, May 9, at 7 p.m. at the Rogue Valley Country club. A social hour will be followed by a no-host dinner. The new officers for 1962 63 will be elected and install ed after a brief business meeting. Two of the women. Mrs. A. N. Potter and Mrs. Charles Barnes, will present a workshop on orienta tion for volunteer workers Wednesday morning. They will be assisted by Charles I. Gustafson, administrator of the local hospital. Other auxilians attend ing the session scheduled May 7 to 10 include Mrs. A. K. Morse, president of the Rogue Valley group; Mrs. Leonard Mayfield, first vice president; Mrs. Paul Selby, who is in charge of the gift shop and "shop on wheels" at the hos pital; and Mrs. Claude Mc Intyre, coordinator for the gift shop and snack bar. Mrs. Barnes is currently second vice president of the auxiliary, having succeeded Mrs. Potter who held the office for two years. In this position, each woman has con ducted orientation classes for volunteers offering their serv ices to the hospital. All new recruits in the auxiliary are required to attend the class so they may be better in formed about the various activities performed by auxil iary groups. Mrs. Morse points out that Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Potter conducted a similar workshop at the annual convention of the Oregon State Council ot Hospital auxiliaries last Octo ber, and that their orientation course was recognized as su perior by other groups.
