To date, 1,408 patients have been flown by the air ambu lance service. Car Damaged A car regis tered to Thomas MacLeod, 200 Sunrise ave., Medford was damaged about 12:16 a m. Fri. day while it was parked on South Riverside ave. between Eighth and Main sts. Jim Knight, 59, Happy Camp, was cited for violation of basic rule after the vehicle which he was operating struck the McLeod car, according to Medford police. Roundtable Speaker Don Stathos, candidate for the Re publican nomination for state senator, and a Medford insur ance man, will speak to the Medford Chamber of Com merce Roundtable at its Mon day noon meeting at North's Chuck Wagon. Stathos will speak on the subject, "What the State Legislature Can Do to Stimulate Industry in Jack son County." Meeting Set - A special meeting of the Democratic Central committee will be held Tuesday, May 8, at 8 p.m. in the Medford Labor Temple. All precinct commit teemen and candidates are urged to attend. A get-out-the-vote program will be discuss ed. Farm Bureau Meeting - The Jackson County Farm bureau will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Phoenix Grange. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss formation of a county tax study committee. All or ganizations and persons inter ested are invited to atend. Fire In Car - Medford fire men were summoned to Main and Front sts. about 1:20 a.m. Friday when a car fire was reported. Redmond was second in the DE student of the year contest. Medford Student Places Second in National Contest Dave Redmond, Medford High school student and pres ident of the Distributive Edu cation clubs of Oregon, was chosen recently as second place winner in the National Distributive Education Stu dent of the Year contest at the 16th annual national lead ership conference in Chicago. The award Is given to out standing students in the field of marketing and distribution who are enrolled in high school distributive education program. Contestants for the contest were limited to first place state winners In the 46 mem ber states which make up the 25,000 student membership. Member! of Delegation Members of the Oregon delegation included Medford DE Coordinator John J. Crabb, Royce Payne, employ. ee of J. C. Penney company under the vocational training program: Pam Mickey, em ployed at Medford High school; Dan Miller, employee of Big Pines Lumber com. pany; and Redmond, em ployee of Big Pines Lumber company. J. C. Penney, founder of the J. C. Penney company, Miss America and sponsored tours through Chicago's famous re tail and wholesale establish ments were included in the program. Oregon entered the public speaking contest, area of dis tribution manual contest, stu-dent-of-the-year contest, job interview, essay and merchan dise manual contest. This is the first time since 1955 when Oregon became affili ated that it has placed in a national contest. Redmond was defeated In the final election for nation al president by Jim Taylor from Colorado. OBITUARIES LULU ERSKINE Funeral services for Mrs. Lulu Erskine, 90, of 521 Ed wards St., Medford, who died Wednesday will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Conger Morris downtown chapel. The Elder Arvin Winkle, of the Seventh Day Adventist church will officiate. Committal will be in Eastwood Oddfellows cemetery. Mrs. Erskine was born Nov. 18, 1871, in Jackson county, Missouri, and had lived in southern Oregon for many years. Her husband, Alvin C. Erskine, died in 1961. Survivors include three sons, Norman Palmer, Gold Beach, Ore.; and George Pal mer and Clifford Palmer, rowell Klver, B. c. ELSIE M. COOPER Mrs. Elsie Mae Cooper, of 64 North Ninth st., Central Point, died in Oklahoma Sat urday. The body will be re turned to Medford for serv ices and interment, with Conger-Morris Funeral directors in charge of arrangements. Smith. 22, of 223 King st., died in a local hospital Saturday. The body will be taken by Conger-Morris, funeral directors, to Oak- land, Calif., for services and interment. Mrs. Smith was born In Oakland, Calif., moving to Medford a month ago. In Oak. land, Aug. 22, 1959, she was married to Walter E. Smith Jr., who survives. Also surviving are three children, Linda Kaye, Walter and Sandra Faye; her mother, Mrs. Ruth K. Stewart, Oak land, Calif.; her father, Hen ry C. Stuart, Antioch, Calif.; a sister, Margaret Stuart, Oak land: and five half brothers, Joseph, Raymond, Henry, Dennis and Thomas, all in Antioch. LEE H. HAMILTON Funeral services for Lee Halleck Hamilton, 68, of 1220 East Jackson st., Medford, who died Thursday, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Conger-Morris downtown cha pel. Mr. Payton was born In Baker, Ore., March 14, 1885. He moved to Portland 50 years ago, and hi worked as an engineer in the Portland water bureau for 40 years. He retired several years ago. Mr. Payton was a charter member of Kenton Lodge 145 AF and AM, and a member of the Municipal Employees' un ion. He is survived by a son, Miller Otis Payton, Medford, and a sister, Alma Payton, Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Little Chapel of the Chimes In Portland.
