Council Gives Tontative Approval to Young Musicians to Play

ine nieaiord city council
Thursday night gave tentative
approval to Robert Adl
rftinager of a group of mu
sicians called the Corvairs, to
hold a dance Friday, May 11,
at the Medford American
Legion hall.
Since Adler and the group
of musicians he represents are
all under 21 years of age,
several of the councilmen
were reluctant to give out
right approval to the request.
Councilman Donald Han
sen moved approval with the
stipulation that a member of
the American Legion contact
City Manager Robert Duff
and offer himself as a spon
sor for the dance. The coun
cil agreed to that proposal.
"You sort of have approv
al," Mayor John Snider told
the young man with a smile.
Dale Truax, president of
the student body at Southern
Oregon college, asked the
council for permission to op
erate a sound truck in Med
ford to promote the appear
ance of the Limeliglers. a
vocal trio, in Medford May
18.
Councilman William Sing
ler told the SOC student that
while he was sympathetic
with this particular endeavor,
it had been the consistent
policy of the council for sev
eral years to deny such re
quests. A unanimous negative
voted followed.
Three public hearings were
held. The council voted to
amend a city ordinance to
permit construction and op
eration of small animal hos
pitals in commercial zones;
to grant a change of zone
from single-family to multiple-family
for a piece of prop
erty located on Crater Lake
avc. to permit the construc
tion of the proposed Sacred
Heart hospital; and to author-
