Keloids
Many a woman writes to
fay that, one day she got a
cut on her arm, or a doctor
removed a
wart, and
now she has
an unsightly,
raised, red
lump where
the cut was
- in other
words, a ke
loid. A plastic
surgeon tells

fore he does any remodeling
work on a f erson, he first
makes a little cut in 'some
usually-hidden place-perhaps
the abdomen-to see if the per
son is a keloid-maker. if so,
he refuses to operate.
It does not do any good to
cut out a keloid because one
only gets another one. Th

tdtk to a skin specialist got
' an excellent result with the
help of some radiation. As I
remember, he was treated
with radium. Previous treat
ments with ointments had
done no good.
Arthritis Can Involve
Voice Box
At the recent meeting of
the American Rheumatism
Association, Drs. Harry Bien-
enstock, George E. Ehrlich
and Richard H. Freyberg re.
ported the interesting fact
that, in quite a few cases of
rheumatoid arthritis, the lit
tie bony joints (cricoaryte
noids) around the voice box
are involved, and as a resnlt
a number of the persons com
plain of hoarseness.
Some even have difficulty
In breathing; a few have a
high-pitched, noisy type of
breathing, and a few have dif
ficulty in swallowing, or a
feeling of fullness in the
throat on swallowing or
breathing. These patients only
rarely complain of pain in the
Joint that is involved. The
voice box is on the front of
the neck. In some cases, an
operation on the little joint
can 'help.

Widespread Heating
Noted in Orchards
Orchard heating in the
Rogue valley started a little
before midnight Sunday, was
pretty general about 2 a.m.
and continued to about 6 a.m.,
County Horticultural Agent
Clifford B. Cordy said.
I doubt if there was any
damage since the colder or
chards were protected with
heaters," Cordy said. One or
chard reported a low of 26 de
grees, he said, adding that the
necessary temperature was
hard to hold.
Cordy estimated about six
hours of heating Sunday
night and Monday. This madj
the fifth day of orchard heat
ing so far this season and the
third night when there was
any amount of smoke. The
number of days ot heating so
far Is behind the usual num
ber, he said.
