Cosky , (Griiiilh photo) "jrjllMiss Boyd Is Bride of Lieutenant Hundreds Attend Benefit Jewelerama Approximately 600 men and women stood in line Thursday afternoon and evning to view a jewel display in the Star light room of the Rogue Val ley Country club. The valua ble collection was brought to Medford by Oscar Heyman and company, manufacturing jewelers of New York City, with the cooperation of Bro phy's Jewelers of Medford and Skeie's Jewelers of Eu gene, and at the request of the annual Hillcrest tea com mittee, a part of the Jackson County unit of the American Cancer society. Mark Taylor, manager of Erophy's Jewelers, and Rex Hammacker, manager of Skeie's Jewelers, were on hand to tell the guests about the jewels, and a stoical but friendly Medford policeman maintained a long vigil beside the display tables. Members of the committee dressed in suitable attire to model the jewels, mingled with the guests to give them a close look at some fabulous pieces. Refreshments were served both afternoon and evening, and valley women presided at the two teatables. The ta bles were centered with artis tic flower arrangements, one a triple-tiered arrangement of lilacs, tulips, violets, and daphne, and the other a wide bowl filled with lilac and tree peonies. Both tables were done in pink and purple, and both used antique gold and crystal containers and candle sticks and candelabra. Tall baskets' and small table bouquets decorated the room. Mrs. L. G. Gentncr arranged the baskets of tree peonies, varied shades of lilacs and branches of pink blossoms, and many of the flowers were brought by Mrs. Hanley Hef fernan from Hanley lands. Four Medford florists donated bouquets: Ginn's Flowers, Leonards Flowers, Hoppe's Greenhouse and Florist, and the Medford Flower shop. An unusual bouquet of tree peonies, pink tulips and lilacs on a large gold-framed mirror with antique brass candle sticks decorated a table at the entrance to the Starlight room. This arrangement was made by Mrs. Raymond Miksche, who also did the cen terpieces for the teatables. Background music was played by Blaine E. Trickel through courtesy of Puruck er's Music house. Jewels valued at more than a million dollars were on dis play, and all types of jewelry were shown - rings, earrings, broches, lapel-pins, necklaces, bracelets, and bejeweled watches. Oriental pearls were represented in necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Yellow, white and pink diamonds were shown, as were sapphires in blue, green, yellow, lavendar and pink. There were many pieces set with diamonds and emeralds, and rubies were fea tured in the emerald-cut and cabochon. Star sapphires and star rubies were favorites with the women guests. A genuine alexandrite was set with diamonds to make a glamorous dinner ring. Alcx andrites are rare and costly, and the viewers were fascin ated with the huge stone which changes color in dif ferent lights and with differ ent colored dresses, as it is worn. One favorite with the guests was an oriental pearl and dia mond necklace, which was modeled in the evening by Mrs. Russell Barnes. Worn with the necklace were dia mond and pearl drop earrings, one drop a white pearl and the other a black pearl. Mrs. Fred Spicgclberg wore a necklace and matching bracelet and ring of cabochon rubies combined with dia monds. The deep wine-rose shading of the rubies was ef fective with her white chiffon cocktail dress. Yellow sapphires and dia monds combined with white diamonds to make many love ly pieces, and blue sapphires, emerald-cut rubies, and emer alds were set with white dia monds to advantage in rings, bracelets and brooches. Diamond Duck A conversation piece was a duck lapel pin of diamonds and rubies. The body of the duck was a 400 years old rose- cut diamond of d carats. The rest of the duck was set with diamonds, and the eyes, bill and webbed feet were rubies. Proceeds from the silver tea and jewelerama will be do nated to the American Cancer society by the tea committee, and committee members were reported to be pleasd with the enthusiasm of the guests. Wives of Elks To Be Guests Wives of the new officers of the Medford Elks lodge will be honored guests at. the next Ladies of Elks meeting, Tues day, May 1. in the Elks tem ple downstairs party room. Dessert will be served at 1:30 p m., followed by bridge. canasta and pinochle. Host esses will be Mrs. John W. Hcnson, Mrs. Mcrton S. Ly sler and Mrs. H. U. Mitchell. Mrs. Claude W. Hoover, La dies of Elks chairman, advises that prearranged foursomes are not necessary, as other en. tcrtainmcnt as well as cards, is being planned for these parties. Wives and widows of all Elks, whether local or out of town members, are invited. A special invitation is extended to wives of new members. A wedding of interest to valley residents was held April 7 in the Long Beach, Calif., Belmont Heights Meth odist church, when Miss Val erie Jean Boyd, of that c t became the bride of Lt. tig Charles E. Cosky, son of Mrs. Otto W. De Jarnctt, 618 West Jackson street, Medford. Dr. George Rami officiated at the two o'clock afternoon rites attended by more than 50 relatives and friends. The bride's parents are Mrs. Jean Boyd, Long Beach, and Ken neth P. Boyd, Lancaster. Calif. ! Given in marriaue by her father, the bride wore a floor length gown of white organza over taffeta fashioned with fitted bodice, scoop neckline, long sleeves and short train. The bodice was accented with pearls and crystals and a cor onet of sequins held her fin gertip length veil trimmed with lace. She carried a bou quet of white carnations in the shape of a cross. Miss Janic Ackley, Long Beach, served as maid of hon or. She wore a pink chiffon over pink satin frock and her small veil was held by a cor onet. She carried a bouquet of pink carnations. Lt. (jg) Duanc Stralton, San Diego, was best man. Seating the guests were Bruce C. Marshall, James HiRgins, and Craig McCarter, all lieuten ants, junior grade in the Navy stationed at San Diego. The church was decorated with white calla lilies and while stock for the ceremony. Mrs. John Hondrum was soloist. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Boyd chose a blue print i silk dress with blue acces sories. Mrs. De Jarnett wore a beige silk suit with match ing accessories and floral hat. Their corsages were white or chids. Mr. and Mrs. John J. Van democr, grandparents of the bride, were hosts for the sup per and reception which fol lowed the wedding at their Long Beach home. The couple is at home at Coronado, Calif. The bride wore for traveling a blue suit with white orchid corsage. The bride attended San Ped ro High school in Long Beach, and Long Beach State college. The bridegroom, a Navy pilot is a graduate of Medford High school and the U. S. Naval academy. He is stationed at the Naval Air station, North Island. San Diego, Calif. 1 Margaret Mary Jacobs (Camera Mart) Jacobs Announce Betrothal News Mr. and Mrs. Milan L. Ja cobs, 20 Willamette street, an nounce the engagement of their daughter. Margaret Mary Jacobs, to D. Lorin Ja- cobs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don L. Jacobs. Route 4, Box 350 ( N 2. also Medford. Miss Jacobs was graduated from Medford High school and Robertson school of Business. She is employed by El Camino hospital in Mountain View, Calif. Prior to moving to Cali fornia in March, Miss Jacobs was employed by Doctors Rob erts and Roberts, Central Point. Mr. Jacobs is also a grad uate of Medford High school. He attended the University of Oregon and was graduated with a bachelor degree in ar chitecture in March, 1(161. He is with Payne and Strublc, architects. A late June wedding is planned. Relative Visits At Welty Home Mrs. Paul Welty of Shenan doah, Iowa, arrived Thursday for a visit with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Wayne Welty, 2040 Hillcrest road. The two are spending the week end in Cor vallis with Mrs. Wayne Wel ly's sons, Vance Welty, a sophomore at Oregon Stale university, and James Welty, and his family. Both young men are graduates of Medford High school. James Welty is a candidate for his doctor of philosophy degree in chemical engineer ing at June 3 ceremonies at Oregon State university. Next fall he is to be an associate professor in the engineering department. Sojourners To Entertain Visitors Medford Sojourner club will entertain the Klamath Falls Sojourners at a luncheon Thursday. May 10, at 12:30 p.m. in the Girls Community club. Plans for this event were completed at the regular meet ing of the club, held Thurs day, April 26. Members who were not present at this meet ing to sign up for reservations are requested to call Mrs. Clifton Green, SPring 3-7084 or Mrs. Earl Malbourn, SPring 2-8084 before Tuesday, May 8. Hostesses at this week's meeting were Mrs. Frank Lo gan, Mrs. Lora Stewert, and Mrs. Carl Johnson. The ten table was decorated in a spring theme with lilacs and lavender candles. 1 A special prize was won by Mrs. Gladys Eaton. Bridge prizes went to Mrs. 11. F. Jenkins and Mrs. C. W.
