Pitt Rcbekah lodges plan to attend a trek of the Jacksonville IOOF and Ruth Rebekah lodges Saturday, April 28 in Jacksonville. On Sunday, April 29 a breakfast is planned by the Central Point IOOF lodge at the Central Point Grange hall from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., when members of the Mt. Pitt Re bekahs will assist, officers have announced. Friends night recently was observed by the Mt. Pitt Re bekah lodge when Miss Brig elte Moser, Vienna, Austria exchange student at Crater High school was the guest speaker. She was introduced by Don Lacy, a teacher at the school. Miss Moser Is living wilh the Charles Bateman family of Central Point. The speaker told of simi larities and differences of Austria and Oregon. She ex plained that although like Oregon, Austria ..hit' many lakes, there is very little water skiing , as few people"; own boats. Bowling there is for elderly persons, she ex plained, whereas In Oregon, old and young alike enjoy bowling. School classes are held six days a week In Aus tria with very little physical education. The students stay in one room and the teacher, who is highly respected romos to them, the speaker said. ESA Sorority Members To Attend Convention Nineteen members of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority from the three valley chap ters will leave Friday for La Grande, Ore., to attend a three-day state convention of the sorority. From Alpha Lambda chap ter will be Mrs. Lyman Smith, president, Mrs. Willie Fisch er, Mrs. Delbert Cantrall, Mrs. Richard Hanson, Mrs. William Riggert, Mrs. James Benson, Mrs. Robert Bennett, Mrs. Robert Rae, . It was reported that Alpha Lambda chapter had made $25 for philanthropic work for the year and $125 was made from the annual Lily day sale sponsored by Alpha Lambda and Delta Omega chapters. Mrs. Melstcr Is outstanding girl from the Delia Omega chapter and also will be com peting for the state title. Going to the convention from the newly instituted chapter at Eagle Point. Beta Nu, will be Mrs. Kenneth Van- nice, president, Mrs. Keith Sheer, Mrs. Helen Ucrlings and Mrs. Billic Larson. The entire group will go by chartered bus and they will be guests at the Sacaja wea hotel in La Grande dur ing the convention. Mrs. Arthur Hunnl, Pendle ton, is retiring state president. Wins Trophy Alpha Lambda chapter was presented an attendance tro phy at the Southern Oregon district council meeting of Hie sorority held April 15 in the Tally llo dining inn. It was the fifth lime that the group hart received the trophy. Six teen members attended the session. Al the district Hireling Mrs. Willie Fischer was elected lo the office of southern Oregon district recording secretary. The chapter met April 23 for a business and education al meeting at the home of Mrs. James Ristau with Mrs. served. A Founders' day lea will be held on May 10 at the Girls Community club with members of other Epsilon Sig ma Alpha chapters and Beta Sigma Phi chapters as guests. The audit committee ap pointed is made up of Mrs. Robert Burmester, Mrs. Young and Mrs. Herb Partridge. Following the business meeting the educational pro gram was conducted by Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Rae. Century 21 was the theme for a style show and information was given on the Seattle Worlds Fair. Models were Mrs. Bur in e s t e r and Mrs. Gary Straube. Cameraman and di rector were Mrs. Norwood Liklider and Miss Robin Wyatt. Commercials were given by Mrs. William Riggert and Mrs. Robert Bennett. The educational director, M r s. Benson, introduced the pro gram. Clothing styles were from Jean Hart's and shoos from Johnston and Stewart. Recital Planned Sunday Afternoon Piano and organ students of Mrs. Leslie Boardman will be presented in recital in the sanctuary of First Melhodist church, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, April 2!). Loyalty Dinner Plan of Shady Cove Veterans Shady Cove-A Loyalty day dinner will be sponsored by the Steelheau post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and auxili ary Sunday, April 29 at 7 p.m. in the post home at Shady Cove. A guest speaker is scheduled. Mel Gibson and Mrs. Jo bie Bryan are chairmen for the event. Mrs. Harry Birch of the auxiliary also reminds mem bers that earlier in the day the Camp White Domiciliary Hobby Fair will be conducted from 1 to 5 p.m., at the Domiciliary, The post and auxiliary met April 20 for their first meet ing with newly installed offi cers presiding. Members of the post voted to fly their colors each day of the sum mer season. James Perkins offered to purchase a new 50-star flag. Sewing Group Slates Meeting Medford sewing group of Zuliema temple, Daughters of the Nile, will hold a meeting on Monday, April 30 at 10 a.m., in the home of Mrs. Ralph McKay, 1010 Sunset avenue. Mrs. D. R. Allred, chair man, asks that those attend ing take a sack lunch. Any one needing transportation may telephone Mrs. McKay, SPring 3-1895. Garments made by the group during the year will be sent to Shrincrs hospitals for crippled children. Luncheon Honors Mrs. Vern Nelson A farewell luncheon was given recently at the home of Mrs. Ralph Smith. 2212 Crater Lake avenue in honor of Mrs. Vern Nelson, 210'-3 Washing ton street, Medford. In 62 Study Club Entertained In Medford Ashland-Twice in one week members of Ashland Study club met. The first meeting was the usual afternoon pro gram at the home of Mrs. N. H. Dillon, 847 Garden Way, when the speakers were Mrs. Louise Perozzi and Mrs. Len Osgood. The second was two days later when members were guests of the Medford Wed nesday Study club for a des sert luncheon at which the speaker was Mrs. James Pree, who showed pictures of the Sister City tour to Alba, Italy. The reciprocity event was held at the Girls Community club in a setting of spring flowers. Mrs. Perozzi, an inveterate world traveler now making her home in the Rogue Valley Manor, told of the winter tour which she and her daughter took. After flying to Mexico City they journeyed into the lesser known southern half of Mexico where thousands of ancient ruins make it the equal of Egypt in archeologi cal explorations. Of particu lar interest were the Oaxaco pyramids and tombs at Mt. Alban and Mitla dating from 700-300 B.C. The speaker described many of the ceremonials of the natives, telling of their festivals, customs and handi crafts. Making her travelog more vivid were the many pieces of pottery and jewelry which she displayed and the handwoven skirts and blouses worn by Mrs. Frances Hardy and Mrs. Perozzi. "Bavaria through the Eyes of an American Bride" was Mrs. Osgood's subject. From letters written home by her daughter, Mrs. Gerald Rice, she chose excerpts that prov ed both entertaining and amazing. Some of the customs gave rise to general inquiry and discussion by the club members. Beautiful wood carvings and a stein of historic value were an added feature of the narration. The young Ashland bride showed an intense in terest in the condition of the German children, especially the plight of Ihose with mixed blood. She and her husband have taken many trips into the Bavarian Alps and to the famous Oberammcrgau. Tea was served at the con clusion of the program. Mrs. Elizabeth Sommer will be hostess for the April 30 meet ing. WildfloweSsiides Shown To Gardeners; Speaker Announced Applcgate Valley - Mrs. Jl'oward Bush of Medford presented slide pictures of wild flowers at a meeting of the local garden club held at the home of Mrs. Charles Williams recently. Flowers were those found in southern and central Oregon and parts of Nevada. Guests at the meeting in cluded Mrs. Anne Martin and Mrs. Beatrice Lappin and Miss Diane Bush of Medford, and Mrs. Edgar Bush, Mrs. Henry Mapston, Mrs. Ray Lampkin, and Mrs. Ralph Smith of this vicinity. Mrs. Richard Dol, librar ian at Southern Oregon col lege, will be guest speaker at the May meeting of the garden club. She will demon strate flower arrangement, and a silver lea will be an added feature. Dinner Planned By Pocahontas Wcatonka council, Degree of Pocahontas, will hold a potluck dinner at the Redman jhall Friday, April 27, at '8:30 p.m. ! Past chiefs will preside over the meeting which will follow at a p.m. Presiding will be Mrs. Lewis Thompson. Pocahontas; Mrs. Charles Slelle, Wenonah; Mrs. Ralph While, prophetess; and Dick Sineler, Powhalen. ' A card party will follow the meeting. Cake, coffee ;-..? t?a will be served bv the club Hospital Week Will Be Observed at Tea Members of Rogue Valley Memorial hospital auxiliary will hold their annual tea in observance of National hos pital week on Monday, April 30, in the Board and Staff room of the hospital. Mrs. A. K. Morse, auxiliary president, states that anyone interested is invited to call between 2 and 4 p.m. Several pieces of equip ment to be used in the new wing of the building will be shown, according to Mrs. Delegates Elected for State Meet Delegates to the Oregon Grand Bethel session, Inter national Order of Job's Daugh ters, to be held in June at Coos Bay were elected at a joint meeting of Bethel 69 of Medford, and Bethel 56 of Shady Cove, held recently. Miss Lynn Boughner, hon ored queen of Bethel 69, and Miss Susanne Schauble, hon ored queen of Bethel 56, pre sided for the joint session. Miss Marsha Ackerman and Miss Judy Frost were elected to represent Bethel 56, while Miss Denna Taylor, Miss Boughner and Miss Bonnie Denyer will represent Bethel 69. Miss Taylor is to represent Miss Patricia Brewold, grand choir member, who cannot at tend the session. Mrs. C. D. Elhart, past grand guardian, introduced Mrs. Date Ackerman, grand librarian, Mrs. Nell Hershber ger, past guardian of Bethel 13, Grants Pass, and Mrs. Ei leen Eastin, past guardian of Bethel 56. The meeting was recessed so that Bethel 69 could per form a ceremony for the Scot tish Rite Masons. Miss Cheryl Bramhall was soloist, accom panied by Miss Charlotte Brown. Bethel 69 members announced- that their Secret Dads would be entertained at a dinner immediately preced ing their next meeting on May 3. The dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Daughters of the bethel will be revealed to their Secret Dads at that time. Refreshments were served following the meeting by the Misses Joyce Levetzow, San dra Poirier and Anette Flynn, assisted by their mothers. On Trip Mrs. W. C. Degerness. 520 Dakota street, left Wednes day for Spokane, Wash., where she will visit for a week with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Degerness and family, former Medford residents. "Your Hospital . . . uniting science and patient care" is the theme for the 1962 Na tional hospital week. Observ ance at Rogue Valley Memo rial from April 30 to May 4 coincides with opening of the new wing of the hospital. In addition to the tea Mon day, auxiliary members will also be hostesses at the tradi tional party for babies born in the hospital during the first week in May a year ago. This event is scheduled for Thurs day, May 3 at 1 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria. Mrs. E. J. DeVoe and Mrs. Francis R. Olds, who are in charge of arrangements, report that 26 babies and mothers have been invited to attend. Easter Occasion For Visitors in Applegate Valley Applcgate Valley - Easter was an occasion for out-of-state guests at local homes. Miss Rena Maltby of San Francisco was a week end guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stalun near Ruch. Others who had been guests at the Stalun home just prior to Easter were Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Busch and son Jeffrey, Los Altos, Calif. Mrs. Bernice Meier of West gate, Calif., spent Easter and the week following as a guest of Mrs. Glenn Williams in Medford and of Mrs. John Byrne of the Applegate. She is a former resident, and expect ed to attend Upper Applegate Grange Friday. Dr. Ramsey Burdette, state veterinarian of Salem, was a recent guest of Mr. and Mrs. William Barker at Ruch. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Phinney and daughter, Betty, of Port land visited recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Saltmarsh. Recent guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Grier were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Han sen of Patterson, Calif., and Sharon and Bruce Barker of Vallcjo, Calif. The Pattersons are locating in Southern Ore gon, having purchased a ranch at Rogue River. Open Hoedown Is Set for Saturday All valley square dancers are invited to attend an open hoedown at the Roxy Ann Grange hall Saturday, April 28. Dancing will start at 8:30 p.m. Callers will be Mrs. Lila Weaver and Robert Glathar. Freeman, wife of the Seo ertary of Agriculture, models a cotton dress before the Na tional 4-H conference in the new Senate Office building auditorium. The fashion show was entitled "Research on Parade" and featured garments made of research-developed and improved agricultural products. (UPI) Concerts Announced Students of the new St. Mary's High school will pre sent their choral concert at the school the second week in May. It has been scheduled for three nights, Tuesday, May 8, Wednesday, May 9 and Thursday, May 10, and will begin at 8 o'clock each evening. The school is lo cated at 816 Black Oak drive. A nominal charge will be made with a special price for students. Play Announced In Butte Falls Butte Falls-"Our Gal Sal" will be presented by the Butte Falls Student body Fri day, April 27, al 8 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The play, being presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., is de scribed as a delightful com edy. The cast includes Martha Dalton, Darlene Edmondson, Linda Webster, Dahicl Rem sen, June Buttram, Dixie Mc Conochie, Mike Stratton, Arthur Rambo and Virginia Baker. Directing the play is Dean Boggan, advisor of the senior class and acting superintend ent of Butte Falls schools. Announce Scores For Bridge Club Mrs. Richard Jones and Mrs. Marvin Nelson won first place in the north-south posi tion in the Camp White Vet erans Bridge club regular play on April 23. They scored Dili points. In second place were Mrs. Melissa Bowman and Mrs. J. J. Finegan who scored 80 points. In third place were Mr. and Mrs. Dom Provost with 72 li points, and in fourth place were John Foley and Paul Hatton, 60 points. In the east - west positions were first, Mrs. J. J. Dougher ty and Mrs. Jerry S. Laus matin, who scored 77 points; Mrs. H. B. Collins and Gil bert Pettibone, second, with 73 '2 points; R. W.
