Newspaper Page TextCollege Students Found After Two Days in Cave Trenton, Ga. - OJPB - Three college students trapped for nearly two days at the slimy base of a steep .idergrounH cliff below famed lookout Miss Rogue Valley Competition Set The Rogue valley will be represented in the Miss Ore gon pageant in Seaside in Sep tember by a Miss Rogue Val ley, according to officials of the Medford Junior Chamber of Commerce. The Jaycees, who will stage the local pageant in the Ore gon Shakespearean theater, Ashland, on June 2, are in charge of the local event. It was reported that the local pageant will be design ed to encompass the entire valley rather than Just the Medford area. The first elimination of con testants will be held Wednes day evening at North's Chuck Wagon at 8 p.m. To be eligible for the Miss Rogue Valley pageant a con testant must be between the ages of 18 and 28 on Sept. 1, a high school graduate and have never been married. So the contestant will qualify for the Miss America pageant, she must possess charm, poise and talent. Entray blanks are avail able from any Jaycee mem ber. Rusk, Russian discuss Berlin Washington - (UPn - Soviet Ambassador Anatoly F. Dob rynin met with Secretary of State Dean Rusk Monday In what officials said was anoth er round of talks on Berlin. The meeting was sought by the Soviet ambassador. State Department spokes man Lincoln White said Dob rynin set up the appointment to continue the Berlin talks with Rusk that started a week ago today. The two man met then for 65 minutes in Rusk's office, discussing mainly procedural questions about how and when the next round of U.S. Soviet Berlin discussions should take place. As in last week's meeting with Rusk, the ambassador came alone, with no aides and no interpreter. He speaks flu ent English. After several hours of ex ploring they tried to ascend the cliff, but were defeated by its steep face and slippery surface. Academy Entrance Exam Date Listed The competitive United States Civil service designa tion examination used in con nection willi securing a nomi nation to the U S. Air Force, Merchant Marine. A.; Demonstrations Planned Los Angeles - IUPB - A House subcommittee on un American activities opens four days of hearings here to day against a background of planned anticommittee dem onstrations by students and others on the scene and across the nation. Teen-Age Traffic Safely Conference Planned For May 5 The first Jackson County Teen-Age Traffic Safety con ference will be held Saturday, May S, at the Medford High school. Nine ' students from each high school in the county have been chosen to attend the all day session. The con ference is being jointly spon sored by the Medford Safety council and Jackson County Association of Independent Insurance Agents in coopera tion with the Southern Ore gon Peace Officers association and the Medford Insurance adjusters. Keynote speaker will be Vernon L. Hill, Salem, direc tor of motor vehicles for the state. Miss Vlnita Howard, in formational r e p r e sentative for the traffic safety division, will speak at the noon lunch eon. A welcome will be given by Jackson County Court Judge Earl Miller. Traffic safety problems will be dis cussed by a panel consisting of District Court Judge L. L. Sawyer, courts and court pro cedures; D I s t r ic t Attorney Alan B. Holmes, law enforce ment; Hal Carver, driver training instructor, driver ed ucation, and Ren Taylor, president of the Jackson County Association of Insur ance Agents, insurance. The purpose of the confer ence is to provide an oppor tunity for young driver from various schools to identify common traffic accident prob lems and to endeavor to pro vide solutions for them. Delegates will be divided into small seminar groups with consultants present in each group. The consultants will be from various law en forcement agencies In the county and lawyers. The four days of meetings were dedicated to the mem ory of Dag Hammarskjold. late secretary-general of the United Nations. The program of the conclave included two plenary sessions of the gen eral assembly -nd two days of committee and council meetings. Eighty colleges and univer sities representing 100 of the 104 member states of the United Nations were included in the MUN session.
