Many features of craftsmanship have been enlarged, including the popular hobbies of ceram ics and lapidary, with crea tions in pottery and figurines, gems and stones found in the region, which will be on dis play. The Hobby Fair will be all inclusive this year with the various interests supplement ing the manual arts program, represented. These will in clude stamp collections, writ ing, art and a number of un usual features such as fly ty ing, top repairing, photogra- j phy and puzzle assembling In woodworking, the exam ple of August Lovey should be mentioned. His cabinet work and expert inlay achievements were recogniz ed. Having reached the octo genarian stage of life, he was forced to give up work that required standing. But this did not stop him. TUNE-UP 5 SEARS SERVICE CENTER Sunday He invented a process of carving wooden chains all in one piece, which he does sit ting, and turns out attractive flower baskets suspended by chains carved from myrtle wood. Visitors will have the op portunity of watching Lovey carve these chains at the the atre where the Hobby Fair will be held, in the group that has been selected to demon strate their special skills. This feature of the show will also include: Hewitt Pans, fly tying; Bob Evatt, wood carving; Ho- bart Kettleson, leather work; Othman Kipfer, metal spin ning; Ed Brower, weaving; Thomas Madsen, wood turn ing; Larry Wall, air brush art, and Egbert A. Alford, hand loom weaving. A comparatively new art of miniatures in cactus will be displayed by Harold Woods, an expert in this line. Puzzle Collector Then among the diversions ! made available for the men is the puzzle collection. David Frisch developed this interest and a room has been set aside where 1,500 puzzles are kept and used by about 25 mem bers a day. A few of these will be on display at the Fair, including a masterpiece in 1,000 pieces. It is a snow scene and the sameness of color and shape of the pieces complicated the job of putting it together. The Hobby Fair will offer the workmanship from the hands of the 250 men a day who spend varying portions of their time in the shops made available for them. Their efforts will be judged and prizes will be awarded. Each entrant will receive an incentive award. Any work made of materials which have not been provided by the gov ernment may be sold at this time. The quality of the work this year will bear the mark of expert supervision. Assist ing Brown, who is chief of the section, are six member employees who are expert in their field, and another therapist, Hartley B. Lund grecn, transferred recently from the VA hospital, Salt Lake City. He is in charge of ceramics, weaving, lapidary and woodwork. This year the wood exhibits will include lamps, bowls, bird houses, two game tables. an inlaid coffee table and a tea cart. Sponsors of the Hobby Fair throughout the years are the various organizations compos ing the VA Volunteers, who assist in many ways to make the event a success.
