Kindergartens To Be Topic Of SOC Professor Dr. Phyllis Butler, Ash land, professor of education at Southern Oregon college, will speak at an informal meeting for parents sponsored by the Southern Oregon chap ter of the Oregon Association of Nursery Education. The program is designed In inform parents about the kindergartens in the area. The meeting will be held Wednes day, April 25, at R p.m. in the speech room at Hedrick Jun ior High school. The meeting will include a discussion of the needs of the pre-school child. Also at the meeting will be Miss Gladys Durrand, elemen tary education supervisor for the Medford Public schools, and kindergarten teachers of the area. A display of kindergarten arts, crafts, literature, science music and reading materials, will also be held. Other interested persons in addition to parents are invited to attend. Williams Unit Elects New Officers Williams Mrs. Percy Sowell, chairman, presided for the Williams Home Exten sion unit's April meeting April 13, when election of of ficers, homemaker's spring festival and a program of "work smarter-not harder", were the order of the day. Mrs. Howard Collins and Mrs. C. O. Booth Sr. were hostesses for the potluck lun cheon at the Collins home. Duties of the unit's elective officers for next year will be assumed by Mrs. Booth Sr., chairman; Mrs. W. T. Parsons, vice-chairman, and Mrs. Emij C. Voss, secretary and treasur er. The latter for her second term. One of the newly elected officers will attend the state homemaker's council at Cor vallis. May 1 through 3. Josephine County Home maker's spring festival will be held Wednesday, May 16, at the fairgrounds in Grants Pass. The Williams unit will take part in the entertain ment. Miss Rizpah Douglas, retiring county agent, will be honored at the event. l.;t unit made $25 avail able or 4-H summer school scholarships. Mrs. W. W. Claypool and Mrs. Gladys Kraft presented the project for the day, en titled, "Work Smarter, Not Harder." They gave slogans such as "life is hard by the yard it's a cinch by the inch," while demonstrating shortcuts in daily chores. Ideas for saving space in closets and storage areas were given. The galloping goose was presented to Mrs. Jack Collier by Mrs. John Lathrop. Secret pals were revealed and new ones drawn for the next year. The May 11 meeting will he installation of officers and will be held at the home of Mrs. Richard Holloway, Sel ma. Before moving to her new location, Mrs. Holloway was an active member of the Wil liams group. Prospect Lions Auxiliary Elect Prospect - At the April meeting nf the Prospect Lions club auxiliary, officers for the 1962-63 term were elected. Mrs. A. D. Twomhly was elected president, Mrs. Sher man Poole, vice president; Mrs. George Hubbard, secre tary; Mrs. Charles Beck, treas urer, and Mrs. John Freeland, tail twister. Recently initiated into the auxiliary were Mrs. Clinlon Snodgrass, Mrs. Sherman Poole, Mrs. Charles Beck. Mrs. Don Stuart, Mrs. Rex Normand, Mrs. Eugene Bur rill and Mrs. John Freeland. Two of the most recent projects of the auxiliary were a contribution to help the Prospect public library com plete a new addition, and a ham dinner was served for 70 Jackson county classroom teachers. R. Bullock, 815 North Colum bus avenue, called on him at his home on April 14 in ob servance of his ninety-seventh birthday anniversary. About 30 persons attended including his daughter, Mrs. Karl J. K n u t a o n, with whom he makes his home. Here from Vancouver, Wash., were ' his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Albert P. Forgey, who were accompanied by their daugh ter, Mrs. Wesley Engleman of Eugene. Another granddaughter, Mrs. Kenneth Cearley, and her family, live in the valley on Biddle road. Mr. Bullock is still active, and this spring sold daffodils, which he grows in West Med ford as in many previous years. He has five children and seven grandchildren, as well as 12 great grandchildren. Mr. Bullock was born on April 14, 1!)65. Chapter AA Chapter AA, PEO. will meet at the home of Mrs. H. D. Christensen on Wednesday, April 25th at 12:30 p.m. As sisting the hostess will be Mrs. Myers Jones and Mrs. Gordon Hudson. Mrs. John Tourneys N Announced On May 8 and May 15 the Medford Duplicate Bridge club will conduct a two-session club championship of men's and women's pairs. Two separate tournaments, they will be conducted at the same time. Reservations for the tournaments should be made with the director. In a regular session of the Medford Duplicate club on April 17, 11 tables were in play. Winning first place north-south were John Short ridge and Leland Clark with 118 1 xi points. Mrs. Sam Richardson and Robert Dickey took second place with 1095 points; Mrs. Glen Harrison and Paul A. Hatton, third, with 104 points; and Mrs. John Dougherty and George Rode won fourth place with 102 1 -j points. On the east-west position Mrs. Dolph Phipps and Ray Wise took first place. They scored llSVi points. Second place was won by Mr. and Mrs. Dick House with 96 points; third place was taken by John Russell and Al Gilhouscn for 92 points, and fourth place went to Mrs. Hugh Collins and Mrs. J. J.
