Douglas Ron (Memory Lant pholo) Classmates Are Married Ashland Miss Dcnice Dar. lene Gillespie and Douglas Ross, classmates at Oregon Technical Institute In Kla math Falls, were married April 14 at an evening cere mony performed by the Rev. Cecil Coins in the First Bap tist church. The bride, who is . the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Gillespie, 14S2 Oregon street, is a 1961 graduate of Ashland High school and is studying to be a dental tech nician. She attended the Howard elementary school in Mcdtord. Her husband's par ents are Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ross, Concrete, Wash. In .lune the bridegroom will graduate from dicsel engi neering school. The bride's gown was a while silk sheath worn with a short net veil. Her bouquet was an arrangement of pink and white carnations. She was escorted to the altar by her father. Miss Laurel Brown, Myrtle Point, the bride's college roommate, served as maid of honor, and Dennis McNeil, Klamath Falls, was best man. Miss Brown's pale green tis sue frock was made bouffant style and with it she carried a bouquet of pink carnations. Mrs. F. H. Anderson played the bridal organ music. Spring blossoms and foliage were used in church decora tions and in the dining room where a reception was held for more than 40 relatives and close friends of the couple. Mrs. Victor York of Cnr- vallis, and her sister, Miss Doree Woodell, Ashland, served coffee and punch. The wedding cake was cut by Miss Shirley Ross, Concrete. Mr. and Mrs. Ross are now living on the OTI campus after returning from a wed ding trip to Lake Tahoe. Maynard Hadlcy was guest soloist. , Candle lighting by Marsha Mayfield, daughter of the Mayfield s, and Jeannine Hooper, niece of the May fields, followed the entrance of officers. Mrs. Eva May White, crown ing matron, is Mrs. Mayfield'i mother and the new royal ma tron is using the same crown that Mrs. White wore a royal matron of Mojave court, Mo jave, Calif. The crown was presented to Mrs. White by her late husband, Mrs. May field's father. Assisting in the coronation were Richard Mayfield, hon ored marshal; Mrs. Ira Can field, crown bearer; Mr. Can field, sword bearer; Mrs. Mae Rchart, standard bearer; Mri. Marshall Day, marshal in the east; Mrs. Salyers, marshal in the west. Edward Root, John Esp, Clarence Harwood, Howard Gillette, Ole Skoog and Mar shall Day were the guard of honor. The flower tableau in cluded Mrs. Howard Gold smith, Mrs. Jessie Stagg, Mrs. Clarence Harwood, Mrs. Ber yl Lyon, Mrs. Howard Gil lette and Mrs. John Jensen, as sisted by the visiting "Guys and Dolls", 1962-63 royal ma trons and patrons of Oregon. Mrs. Hadley sang "Look for the Silver Lining" during the tableau, and Mrs. Mayfield was given a bouquet of 100 orchids. Mrs. Swing, retiring ma tron, received her past ma tron's jewel from the Court, presented by her husband, Mr. Swing, and she in turn pre sented Mr. Swing his past pa tron's jewel. Uncrowning ceremonies for Mrs. Swing were conducted by Mrs, Canfield, uncrown ing matron, assisted by Mrs. Salyers, Mrs. Day, Mrs. Hop pe and Mrs. Frank Little. Clarence Smith sang "The End of a Perfect Year." Presentations Presentations to the May field's were made from the newly installed officers by Mr. and Mrs. Bishop. Flowers were presented from Reamcs Chapter Order of the Eastern Star by the worthy matron, Mrs. Lloyd Caton. Mr. Laurens and Mrs. Ap lanalp spoke briefly and an nounced to the court that the Shrine hospital had chosen the Order of the Amaranth as "Organization of the Year" for their outstanding contribu. tions and would be honored at the annual Shrine hospital day in Portland on May 6. Court was closed by the new officers and Mrs. Frink, who gave the benediction. For the ceremony Mrs. May field wore a white gown of peau de soie with jeweis on the bodice and tiers of the skirt. Since the orchid is her flow er for the year, she and the women officers wore orchid wristlets. The offices were dressed alike in orchid and blue taffeta gowns. Mrs. Salyers was chairman for the evening, assisted with decorations by Mrs. Esp and Mrs. Raymond Rotor. Large bouquets of lilacs and snn; dragons were used and orchids were placed around the tables with rows of small blue can dles. Plans for the Oregon state convention to be held in La Grande April 27 through 29 j were discussed and a change of by-laws. Hostess chapter for the council meeting was Alpha Kappa, Ashland. Approximately $2,000 has been donated from the seven chapters in the Southern Ore gon District council during the year for philanthropic projects. The council's major project is the Crippled Chil dren's Hospital school in Eu gene. Last year the school re ceived more than $12,000 from the sorority from throughout the state. Coffees Planned By Presbyterians Women of the First Pres byterian church will be the guests of the Westminster Presbyterian church Tuesday, April 24. A coffee hour at 9:30 a.m., in the Fellowship hall of the church, 2000 Oakwood drive, will open the meeting. "Women in the New Na tions of Africa" will be the general theme, and Miss Yvonne Nicholson, American Field student from South Africa, will join in a panel discussion with Mrs. Edgar Kupillas and Mrs. E. L. Har low. Program plans are under the direction of James P. Rowan. A brief business meeting will be conducted at the close of the morning session with Mrs. Scott V. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. in the Blue room. The first business session will start at 1 p.m. with Mrs. Ord Medford Teacher On Committee; Project Planned Mrs. M a x i n e ( Paul R .) Smith left Thursday for Den ver, Colo., to attend a meet ing of a National Education association committee. The group is spending the week end editing the platform and resolutions which will be pre sented at the annual conven tion of NEA to be held in Den ver later this year. Mrs. Smith is a past presi dent of Oregon Education as sociation and has served on numerous state and national committees and commissions in recent years. A plan formulated by the research committee of the Jackson County Department of Classroom Teachers has re sulted in a display which will be used at the national con vention. Under the plan, ma terials from various conven tions and workshops will be made available to teachers not in attendance. It will be one of two "local color" projects from Oregon tn he entered in the national contest. Mrs. Marjnrie Votaw is chairman of the project. Lodge Official To Be Visitor Mrs. Clara B. Gertson, Heppner. Ore., national com mittee woman and state di rector of the Degree of Honor Protective association, will be in Medford Monday. April 23 to make an official inspec tion of the local association. The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m.. in the Girls Community club Entertainment will precede a regular lodge meeting. Gold Star Mothers will at tend the dedication ceremony to be held al 11 a.m. Saturday at the Veterans Memorial gar dens at' Hillcrest Memorial park. Film Series Announced An International Film series is being inaugurated by the Rogue Valley Art society as a service to society members. The films will be shown on the fourth Wednesday night of every month, and the first will be "The Blue Angel" on Wednesday, April 25, at the Red Cross auditorium. The series will run through out the summer. Other sched uled films include Alec Gui ness' "Kind Hearts and Coro nets," "Member of the Wed ding." from the Carson Mc Cullcr play and which stars Julie Harris and Ethel Waters.
