Gold Kill Chamber Hears About Vacation Land of Southern Oregon Plans Gold Hill - R. H. Gandee president of Vacation Land of Southern Oregon, explained the advertising procedure that is being carried on to promote the areas of Jackson and Josephine counties at a recent meeting and luncheon of Gold Hill Chamber of Com merce. Gandee, who is also man ning director of Commercial Printing company, showed sloneproofs of brochures that will be primed and ready soon for mailing by Gold Hill C amber of Commerce to per sons making requests for in formation of the Gold Hill- Eagle Point PTA Plans Afternoon Meet Tuesday Eagle Point - Musical, ar tistic, and physical accom plishments of area children will be featured in the stu dent participation program at the next meeting o.' the Eagle Point Elementary Parent Teacher association. He will be heading up the recreation planning for the forcl. Tree planting lias started in the Prospect district. The dis trict intends reforesting about 5(10 acres Ibis spring. This Includes rehabilitation ot a part of the old Peavine burn. The engineering work on the Prospect High school ath letic field and the grade school playground was accomplished by labor donated by the Pros pect Hanger district's engi neering department. Matheny Hired as Applegafe Principal Applegate - School Board Chairman LcRoy Offenbacher announced the hiring of Bruce Matheny as seventh and eighth grade teacher and prin cipal for the coming year. Matheny is presently teach ing in Phoenix and has taught at Ruch for several years. The Malhenys have two children and live in the Applegate area. Contracts have been re turned by the other teachers, Mrs. Maybelle Offenbacher, first and second grades, Mrs. Hetty Henderson, fiftli and sixth grades and Mrs. Elaine C'ronk. music. Miss Ronnie Thornberiy asked extension of time before returning her contract for the third and fourth grades. Applications are being tak en for school clerk. Mrs. Jean ne Hill, clerk for the past four years, will not be avail able for the position for the coming year. Two candidates have filed for the five year term on the school board They are Ver non Fowler and Marvin Brewster. Fowler is presently on the board having been ap pointed to fill the unexpired term of Francis Krouse. Mail Tribune Table Table Rock We attended the Roosevelt Memorial dinner last Saturday night, and it seemed to us there was a larger crowd than usual. We were glad to hear Larry Shcehan state there would be no smoking allowed. However, before the close of the meeting, we noticed and scented a couple of pipes, and a few women and men sneaking out some lighted cigarettes. We wonder if smokers realize how incompatablc it is to non-smokers to sit in a hall with closed doors and windows breathing air that is polluted with second hand cigarette smoke. The usual highly interesting program was carried out, with many outstanding numbers, all of which brought back to us the hectic days of the early thirties when F.D R. said: "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." This not only lit the spark of hope and faith to go forward in our country, but also in many other nations. Senator McCarthy the guest of honor, and speaker, proved to be an excellent speaker, throw ing in bits of humor as he went along. After telling of the many things Senator Morse had done, and the times he had differed with proposals which were made only later to find he was right. He said there are many things he could do yet, that if there were, there would be no need to re-elect him. "Just as well elect a Republican," he said. At this remark a Republican lady across the table raised her eye brows but smiled. His introduction of Morse brought the audience to its feet with terriffc applause that lasted several minutes. We would say that Senator Morse has lost none of his popularity, if any thing, It has grown, and the man that beats him in his race for the senate will know that he has been in a horse race. Several Attend Seegmiller Funeral Several from this area attended the Rulon Seeg miller funeral at Memory Garden Monday. Mr. Seeg miller often visited here with his daughter and family at the Elmo Stallings home, and lived several years in the Beagle district where he took an active part in social affairs, and was an active member of the Sams Valley Grange. Stamping the name of the country where lumber is made would do no harm, but in our opinion, would have very little, if any, influence on the sale of lumber here. A few days ago we saw a woiKman nailing some beautiful hardwood boards on a wall. We asked him if that wasn't expensive lumber for that purpose. He said, no, this lumber came from Japan. We have seen people buy in hardware stores tools with the words made in Japan stamped on them. The Amos Maplesden family, who have spent the past several months at the Hull orchards, have moved back to their farm in the Meadows district. A nice newsy letter from Miss Linda Bishop at Bethel, Kan. who wants to know about changes and goings on at the Table Rock Community where the Bishop family resided for several years. So instead of a letter, we will will send her a Mail Tribune. Yes, the old house is still in our back yard, the Corncrib is still near the Sage house, but there is a new three bedroom modern dwelling just across the road from the old pine tree. An addition is being made to the J. L. Nealon house, home of the Robert Dunns, and a two-room addition is being made to the Henry Rowcll home, and a concrete foundation and new floor joists have been put under the former Sharp house, now owned by the Rowells. Two large buildings for rabbits are being built, one on the E. E. Robinson farm, and one on the E. W. Robinson farm. When completed they will house some 200 breed ing rabbits. The Sunday school is operating about as usual with the average attendance. On a recent Sunday we had Tom and Jerry with us. Tom Robinson and Jerry Dunn. Oh, Those Phone Calls Here of late we have received so many letters and telephone calls from Insurance salesmen trying to sell lis life insurance of all kinds. It makes us feel like Red Skclton, who recently said: the first thing he does in the morning is get the paper and look over the obituaries, and if his name isn't there he gets up and goes to work. Mrs. Anna Jacobsen, who is living with the George Jones family in Sams Valley, was a visitor here Wed nesday. She asked us to thank for her the ladies who have sent her many lovely cards. The local Sunday school is preparing a program for Easter Sunday to which all are invited. Thought for the Day: Look to your health, and if you have it, praise God and value it next to a good conscience. Izaak Walton. Mrs. Beryl lliiir.o and L. E. Pierson are the other committee mem ber:. Accident Victim O'Brien - Elbert Moore was the victim of unfortunate cir- cuniiitances recently. He was chopping wood in the garage on his place and caught the axe in a coat hanging above on a rafter. The axe fell with force on his head. Klheii with his head gush ing blood, and a very fright-: ened wife, went to Grants' Pass, driving his own car, and gut nine stitches to close the gash. Oregon, to which plans and specifications reference is hereby made, and to assess upon each lot. or part there of, adjacent to and benefited by such improvement its proportion ale share of the cost thereof as provided by the Charter of the Citv of Central Point. Section 2: The Council will meet at the City Hall in Central Point on Mav 1. 19ti2, at the hour of 7 :30 o'clock p.m.. at which time and place the owners of said ad jacent, property are nti t viuri upon to appear before the Council and show cause, if any. why said street should not be improved in accordance with said plans and specifications and why said prop erty should not be assessed for said improvement.
