Brood, route 4, box 420, Medford, ia among 39 Linfield college students who are practice teaching this semester at public schools in Yamhill and Marion counties. She is teaching physical edu cation at Dayton High school. In Los Angtlei - Terry D. Green, 1359 Siskiyou blvd., Medford, is attending a busi ness and educational confer ence of Mutual of New York's National Field club, a sales honor organization, in Los Angeles. Appointed - Gilbert P. Pa checo, Medford, has been ap pointed a professional service representative of McNeil Lab oratories, Inc., David S. La mont, vice president of the sales division, has announced. Pacheco plans to move soon to Albuquerque, N.M. He will have a territory covering the Albuquerque area. Meeting Scheduled - A pre planning meeting to start ar rangements for a mobile chest x-ray unit visit to Medford in June will be held at 7:30 o'clock tonight in the Jackson county courthouse, Medford, according to Mrs. Virginia Kyer, executive secretary of the Jackson County Tubercu losis and Health association. Grass Fire The Medford fire department dispatched one truck to the 1900 block of Marsh lane when a grass fire was reported about 11:31 a.m. Monday. The fire start ed from an orchard heater that had not been put out. It burned 300 square feet, fire men said. Thermometers Taken Joe Naumes, 2677 Kings highway, reported to Jackson county sheriff's office this week that two thermometers and some diesel gas were taken from his orchards along Kings high Way. Ashland Fires Ashland firemen were called out three times in a little over an hour Monday afternoon. They re sponded first to a barn fire at the F. W. Cox place, 938 Oak st., about 1:13 p.m., where fire, caused by the sun shin ing through a window on a pile of manure, inflicted some damage. At 2:18 p.m. they were called to a grass fire at the Alex Peterson property, 681 Normal St., and at 2:22 p.m. a car fire was reported at 581 Terrace st. The fire started in the carburetor of a car beloning to Herbert I. Taylor, 321 North Main st., Ashland. The col lision occurred at Highway 99 and Pine st. There were no injuries and no citations were issued. Food Sale -An Easter food sale will be conducted by the Daughters of the Nile patrol Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21, at the Home Appli ance store, Medford. Cakes decorated in the Easter motif will be featured. ... Permits Issued - The Med ford building department is sued permits Monday to Lean der F. Orr to remodel his resi dence and garage at 2201 East Main st. and to construct a patio at an estimated cost of $3,329 and to Crater Lake Motors, Sixth and Fir sts., to remodel their business build ing at an approximate cost of $2,000. Permits were issued Tuesday to Ben L. Conley to erect a model home on the 200 block of North Pacific high way at an estimated cost of $4,200, and to Pacific Finance company to remodel their business building at 130 South Central ave. at an anticipated cost of $10,000. ... Cars Collide-Cars driven by Nicki Lynn Maars, 19, of 1617 Oregon ave., Medford, and Clifford Michael McGinty, 40, Klamath Falls, collided about 5:35 p.m. Sunday at Armory dr. and South Pacific high way. No injuries were report ed and no citations were is sued, according to Medford police. Break and Eniry - Medford police reported that the Uni versity club, 218 West Sixth st., Medford, was broken into some time Sunday night and several cases of empty bottles valued at $3.50 were taken. At Home - Mrs. Muriel L. Friend has returned to her home, 435 West Gregory rd., Central Point, after undergo ing surgery at Rogue Valley hospital. . Tracks Taken-Frank Albert Terry, box 266, Butte Falls, reported the theft of 3,000 pound tractor tracks recently, Jackson county sheriff's depu ties said Tuesday. Barn Burned-Medford fire men were dispatched to 3653 South Pacific highway about 9:25 a.m. yesterday when they received a house fire report. They found the property own er, Fred J. Toxel, was burn ing the material of an old barn which he had torn down. Firemen reported that the burning was safe, and that they allowed it to continue. No Fires No fires were found yesterday on runs by Medford firemen. One call was to the General I'eiroieum bulk plant about 2 p.m. at 936 South Central ave., where a "possible" fire was report ed. An alarm about 10 a.m. in which a flue fire was re ported at 827 East Jackson st. proved to ne taise. Stove Overheated Med ford firemen were sent to the Sandry Elder home, 519 May ette St., at 7:30 p.m. yester day when an oil stove over heated. They were sent to 704 West Second st. about 6:55 p.m. to assist a woman in get ting into her house. Clinic Scheduled - The chest x-ray clinic win De open at Sacred Heart hospi tal Thursday, April 19, from 2 to 5 p.m., according to the Jackson County Tuberculosis and Health association, which sponsors the clinic. Building Permit - A build ing permit has been issued by the Medford building depart ment to Roy Matheny to erect a storage room and shop at 2701 East McAndrews rd. valued at $2,000. Collision Vehicles oper ated by Ruth Ann Roessler, 31, of 2175 Crestbrook rd Medford, and Mary Rose Booth, 59. of Walla Walla, Wash., collided Tuesday after, noon at the intersection of Eighth and Fir sis., according to Medford police. Mary Booth was cited by police for failing to yield the right of way. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 18, 1962 Grange News Obituaries DANIEL G. SANDERS Daniel Glenn Sanders, 8, of 1478 Ridgeway rd.. died this morning in a local hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Conger-Morris Funeral directors. GLADYS ANKENY Miss Gladys Ankeny, 74, of Mistletoe St., died last night. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Conger-Morris Funeral directors. HERBERT BROWER Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 18 at 3 p.m., at the Huston Funeral home in Lebanon, Ore., for Herbert J. Brower, 33, former Medford resident, who died April 14. Burial will be at the Willamette National cemetery in Portland. He was born Oct. 19, 1928, in Bellingham, Wash. Sur vivors include his mother, Mrs. Edna Earling, . Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, W. G. (Jack) Brower, Medford, Leo I. Brower. Seattle; and four sisters, Mrs. Gloria McGill, Bremerton, Wash., Mrs. Ruth Mrofchak, Seattle, Mrs. Char lotte Hill, Susanville, Calif., and Mrs. Lois Ashley, Terris, Calif. Mr. Brower was a graduate of Medford High school where he was student body presi dent in his senior year. He also was a graduate of Willa mette university where he re ceived both his bachelor of science degree in music edu cation and his master's desjree. He served with the Air Force as a lieutenant during the Ko rean Conflict. At the time of his death, Mr. Brower was music instruc tor of Lebanon High school, and was choir leader at the Presbyterian church. He also was a member of the Elks lodge. Sigma Chi fraternity, and the Lions club. FRANCIS GIBBON Francis Joseph Gibbon. 77 died in a local rest home Tues day. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Memory Gardens Funeral home. Two members of the Jack son county unit of the Ameri can Cancer Society showed a film, "The Arthur Godfrey Cancer Story," at the last meeting of Roxy Ann Grange. Dr. Ralph D. Odell, Med ford physician, answered questions after the film. One of the Grange com munity service projects is to collect books for the library at the Jackson county juven ile detention home. The dis play table at the last Grange meeting showed part of the collection. The lecture program was planned and presented by Mrs. Paul Dalton, Roxy Ann lecturer, with several mem bers taking part. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whitcher who formerly made their home on Foothills rd. and now live near Glendale, were present. The North Pa cific Grange lecturer and members plan to attend a Roxy Ann Grange meeting to present a program in the future. Phoenix Grange A ham dinner preceded the open meeting at Phoenix Grange recently. An estimat ed 140 persons heard speak ers from both political parties during "candidates night." The chairmen of both cen tral committees attended and introduced speakers alternate ly from each group with a three-minute schedule for each speech. . The flag was presented be fore the evening activities with Master Lloyd Lacy and members Mrs. Olin Poe, Mrs. Robert Meadows and Fred Meadows carrying the flag. Following the presentation Lacy then turned the meeting over to Grange member War ren Loffer, who acted as mas ter of ceremonies. Preparation and serving of the dinner was done by Phoe nix Grange members. College Student Hurt In Motorcycle Mishap A 20 -year-old Southern Oregon college student was taken to Rogue Valley hospi tal Monday afternoon after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a pickup truck at Kenwood and Locust sts. Reported in satisfactory condition was Frank Hubertus Rudiger, whose residence is listed as Siskiyou hall at SOC. Driver of the pickup truck which collided with Rudiger's motorcycle was Ralph Eather ton, 58, of 1314 Locust St., Medford, according to city po lice. The accident occurred about 5:05 p.m. No citations were issued.
