They do listen. Singers and musicians flock to these companies to hear all they have to offer. The turnover has never been so fast in the histor of mu sic." Mrs. Cudd sptaki from exp.ritnce. borne of the songs she has had published and recorded art "Baby Doll," Peanut Pie," "South, land," "Bouquet of Memo ries" and "Nothing at All." She writes both the lyrics and the music. "Baby Doll" was recorded and bought directly by a the atrical agent in Florida and was used in the Grand Open ing of the Orange Blossom Theater. It was also used by the director of that theater in a show that wag put on the road for the USO's during World War II. "Nothing at All," recorded by Decca, is her latest. Mrs. Cudd gives thi advice to those who are new in the song writing business: "Copyright all material. No major recording company or publisher will handle it other wise. To do this, write to The Library of Congress, Wash ington, D.C., for form sheets; they are self-explanatory. Tape-record your song, words and music, in the simplest torm possible, i suggest a single piano or guitar and a singer who has a pleasant voice and good enunciation. Print or lyre write the words on clain white paper. And please double space. "Mail the tape and the copy of the words together in a large manila envelope to all leading recording companies. You can get the names and addresses of some of these companies from the public li brary. On the face of the en velope print in big, bold let ters, 'Tape Recording.' Make certain to have the correct ad dress and place your return address in the upper left hand corner of the envelope. Be sure to have the proper amount of postage. Include inside this envelope another manila envelope, self-addressed with the correct return postage. This is most import ant: your material will be re turned only if you do this. "If you know the name and address of any reliable agent, he should be included on your mailing list. If you can afford it, hire an agent. "Ask any musician or singer you coma in contact with to play or sing your song. Send copies to local radio stations. Tell every one you know about your music. If it is good, some day it may b. heard in the right place at the right time. Endurance is a valu able asset. "Good luck, whoever and wherever you ire."
