SUNDAY, APRIL IS, 1962 MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, OREGON 8 C Speaker Announced For Society A lecture on herbs will be given by Mrs. Arthur Kneass during a meeting of the Rogue Valley Herb society Tuesday, April 17, at 1:30 p.m., in the Girls Community club. The title of her lecture is, "All- Year Round Gifts Made From Herbs." In keeping with the theme, roll call will be answered by members naming wild herbs used in salads, and Mrs. Leo Thomas will give the herb growers review on "Grow Herbs From Seeds." The exhibit for the day will be done by Mrs. Sidney Han sen and Mrs. Charles Ray will be the hostess. At the March meeting of the group Mrs. J. W. Ostran- der lectured on "What Herbs Can Do for a Garden," and Mrs. L. Lingscheit did the re view on "Uses of Herbs by Indians." Mrs. Kneass made the exhibit for the day and Mrs. Vern Shangle and Mrs. Kneass served refreshments made with herbs. Mrs. Florence Cox, Mrs. George S. Jennings and Mrs. . W. C. Gannaway were vis itors. The club furnished a simu lated Indian encampment for the Central Point Garden club show held recently. The exhibit included wild herbs used by the Indians for food and medicine and was made under the supervision of Mrs. R. D. Abel. : Music Teachers To Hear Pupils Pupils will perform at the monthly meeting of itogue Valley district, Oregon Music Teachers association, to te held in the home of Mrs. Ken neth L. Brown, 1203 Queen . Anne avenue, Monday, April 16, at 8 p.m. instrumental numbers, un der the direction of Ron Bart lelt, will be performed by Mi chael Dean, Christy Sleeter, Kay Teeters, Ellen Hciden reich, Betty Gay Coffman, and Signe Lusk. Piano pupils of Mrs. Darell Huson will perform the "Ad ventures of Ivan for Piano" by Khachaturian. Playing will be Marilyn Taylor, Carol Konschol, M a d e 1 y n Bunno core, Margaret Doolen, Marll Dixon, Dorothy Minshall, and Jennifer Wilcox. 5. (Brainerd photo) Life of Christ Depicted on Stamps 'The Greatest Life Lived," the life of Christ as portrayed on postage stamps, was the title of the program of the Southern Oregon Stamp club at a meeting held April 5. The program was presented by Mrs. Mabel Houck, who has been working on the ex hibit for several years. Each of the IB pages of the exhibit was projected on a screen with an opaque projector. Each stamp, with a few ex ceptions, is titled with a verse from the Bible, mostly from the Gospels. The first stamp in the exhibit is from the Ever .Vatican and depicts the An- gel Gabriel, on the same page are a stamp from Monaco showing the Virgin Mary, one from" Poland depicting the Annunciation and one from the Philippines and one from Malta depicting the Immacu late Conception. The next page shows a stamp from Palestine depicting Rachel's tomb which is near Bethle hem. Stamps from Hungary, the Vatican and New Zealand honor the Nativity. The Holy Family it shown on a stamp of Spain and many countries show the Madonna and Child on stamps; Mrs. Houck used those issued by the Congo, Ireland, Aus tria, Belgium, the German re public, and the Saar, who issued a set of large format stamps with this theme. Stamps from Hungary, Aus tralia, Cuba, Brazil and New Zealand honor the visit o the Wise Men; and Eire, Spain ana the Vatican depict the flight into Egypt. Baptism Depicted j Spain Issued a stamp depict ! Ing the baptism of Christ and a Polish stamp Is used to de pict the Holy Sulrit as a dove descending. Palestine has is sued a stamp showing the Sea of Galilee, and Italy issued a large stamp depicting Christ teaching. The parable of the Good Samaritan is depicted by a stamp from Israel show ing the Jericho road, one from Belgium and one from Greece showing the Good Samaritan. The Dominician Republic is sued a stamp showing Jesus and the little children. A stamp from Trieste illus trates the crowing of the cock in Peter's denial of his Lord, and one from Angola depicts the crown of thorns. A stamp from Belgium shows Christ carrying his cross and one from Spain and another from Belgium shows- the descent from the cross. West Germany issued a stamp depicting the seamless robe worn by Christ and gambled for by the sol idiers. Stamps by Italy and Poland depict the angel at the tomb on Easter morning. The last page in the exhibit shows a stamp of Argentina picturing the Christ of the Andes, and slates that this statue "declares His triumph and His divine place of Divine guidance in the world of liv ing men." Following the business meeting the club held a short stamp auclion with Boh Lowe as auctioneer. Announcements of coming stamp events were made, the biggest being the Centex exhibition to be held at Seattle on May 28. 20, and 31) at the Benjamin Franklin Hotel. Centex is the 22nd An nual Pacific International Philatrlie exhibition sponsor ed by the Northwest Feder ation of Stamp clubs; the lncnl rlub is one of the menihrrs. Host club to Centex will be The Collectors club, Seattle. Clyde Smith, a past president of the Southern Oregon Stamp club, announced that he was entering a nine-frame exhibit on the Civil War; other mem hers said that they also plan to attend. There are 5 classes and 21 sections in the exhibi tion, and it is open to mem bers of any of the member clubs wilh a small fee for each frame.
