Yeara ago, our teacher told ua not to use the word I ao much, laid it we did, we would get to be a big I, and little U person. So, we and our better half attended the dinner at North's Chuck Wagon Wednesday honoring Kerby Tant, government trapper in thia area, who has kept the varmints on the jump for more than 20 years. Besides Kerby and wife, we met many nice people, including those who have charge of the fish and wild life work in the atate of Oregon, also the new members who will take Kerby'i place. Bill Berry of Shady Cove will work In this area, and Robert Palmer In the Applegate dis trict. Also present at the dinner were M. B. Smith, district agent and Bill Nelson, assistant agent; John Dietrich, agent, and Eric Peacock, alto connected with the aervlce. Some highly interesting pictures of wild life, flowers, mountains and streams in the Oregon coun try were shown. Mrs. J. S. Richardson received a telephone call recently asking about their new baby. The inquirer had read of the birth In the Tablets, but didn't notice that the item waa taken from the Table Rock Tablets of 1917. We have received a nice letter from the Purcella who are rejoicing over the nice weather they are having in their mountain sanctuary, which now has 13 homes. They are eagerly waiting for the vegetable season, when they expect to come down for their usual supply of garden products Neutral on Home Rule Since we are neutral as to the home rule charter, we get to hear expressions from both sides. A man who aaya he is for it made thia remark: If the Democrats want to stick their necks out and oppose home rule, It's their own business. Why make such a stew about It? On the other side we heard this. You can't make me believe seven commissioners won't spend more money than three. We are trying to be neutral, but to say home rule will do away with politics sounds like baloney to ua- We knew a young man that worked his way through college and law school, then applied for a posi tion in one of the State Departments. After a thorough, examination of his credentiala and knowledge of Ore gon law, the official told him he was well qualified for the job, and could have it, but would have to change ' hia registration. He was a Democrat, and Oregon at that time was Republican. The young man that applied for the job is still a Democrat. Hia birth which we had in last weeks column cauaed the eonfusion as some didn't notice the date of the item. - Staff Sg't. Eugene Moreland, of the U.S. Air Force, with hia wife and four children have been spending the last two weeks here with Mrs. Moreland'a parents at the Jess Elder home. Sergeant Moreland ia leaving soon for Guam, where he will be stationed. His wife and children will follow when he secures living quarters for them. Jack Frost haa invaded local orchards two nights in succession. But each time was repelled by crews oper ating batteries ot orchard heaters. We note where a telephone company In the east ia teaching women how to do back seat driving, says its a good safety measure. Some women we know can drive from both seats at the samt time. vv. SQUARE DANCERS Floyd Workman, left, square dance caller from Phoenix and Buzz Dibble ot Medford seem to be enjoying themselves at the Circle N Square Dance club of Yreka's 10th annual square dance jamboree held last Satur day and Sunday at Yreka. Dancera came from aa far south as Red Bluff and as far north as Portland. A dance waa held Saturday night. Then on Sunday morning the dancera were served breakfast by the Kiwanis club. There was mora danc ing Sunday, followed by a potluck supper. Regional Calendar Eagle Point The Eagle Point Grange started a com bined dancing class and an evening of aocial dancing and fun for all youngstera four teen years of age and older last Saturday night. A small admission charge is being made with the Colleen Hope Dancing atudio in charge of the lessons the first hour. All youngsters are invited to at tend from 8 to 10 p.m. each Saturday evening. Sams Valley - Sams Valley Grange will meet Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Grange hall. Pot luck dinners have been dis continued. Refreshments will follow the meeting. A number of men In the community, arraying them selves in ladies dresses, will set the Easter parade as the keynote of the show. A burl esque on the old time school room also is being prepared. Many valley people are par ticipating in the ahow, which is directed by William Barker and Mrs.. Martin Grier of the PTA ways and meana com mittee. Admission will be by dona tion, ' and proceeds will be used to purchase band instru ments for the school. Boyd Gibson, school principal, will be master of ceremonies. Open House Tonight Happy Camp -r In connect ion with National Library week, an open house will be held tonight at the new Happy Camp library in its location in the R and R building. The open house will be from 1 to 8 p.m. During the open house, tne Happy Camp Memorial Li brary association will hold a short meeting to discuss in formally some of the library s problems. The library will officially open for book circulation Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. Tentative hours will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednes day and Friday, If there is public demand, the library may open from 8 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdaya. Sams Valley - A meeting of all land owners in the Sams Valley-Beagle area has been called for Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Sama Valley Grange hall. Purpoae of the meeting is to discuss plana for the forma tion, ot an irrigation district which proponents hope to have completely organized and ready to act on behalf of the water users at the appro priate time. STEVE WILSON LUMBER Group Seeks Ralph James, secretary ot Sama Valley-Beagle Water De velopment association, said that at two recent meetings of the board of directors plans were prepared, including a proposed outline of the boun daries of the district, which will be submitted to the meet ing for consideration of tha land owners. Maps showing the proposed boundaries will be on display, and procedures to be follow ed in the formation of the dis trict will be explained, ha said. u.
