B Good Deal Given Oregon Farmers Salem (DTD Agriculture Director Jamei F. Short says Oregon tarmeri - and conium era - got a good deal from ' the 1961 legislature. Short tald the legislature'! : decisions showed "close itudy and careful decisions" on bills in the agriculture field. Short said a $75,000 legis lative snip in the department's budget will necessitate cur tailment of a few services. On the other hand, he said, the department is geared to activate major new laws. In spite of the cut, Short said, "we will not let down the bars in present rigid re quirements in the meat inspec tion program." Short said farmers and consumers won improvements in these areas: Regulation of bees and honey, quarantines, deputy veterinarians, produce dealing, control of barberry, livestock auction, humane slaughter, control of predatory animals, frozen dessert regu lation, livestock brand inspec tion, beef council, pesticides, herbicide control areas, fro zen meat inspection, and live stock feeds.
