Mrs. Hodges reviewed "Learn by Living," a self-bl ography by Mrs. Eleanor Roo sevelt In which she sets down her basic philosophy of life developed through trial and error over a long span of rich and active years. It is said to be a self-portrait which bespeaks the absence of any vanity, self complacency or pettiness. Mrs. Roosevelt tells how to become a mature person, how to use ones time effectively, how to get the best out of people, how to conquer fear end how to maintain hope and help others and live so that the world Is richer by having lived. Mrs. Carter read a prepared article on the early history of Oregon, particularly facts about Jacksonville. 1 Ashland - Mrs. Elmer New ton, Mrs. John Shipley and Mrs. W. S. Stennett are in Eugene this' week where they are representing the Ashland Neighbors of Woodcraft at the annual state convention. Ceremony In Loomis Weds Pair Of interest here is news of the wedding April 23 in Loomis, Calif., of Miss Mon arae Myers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waldmar Storz, to Ronald Lee Hahner, Sacra mento. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Hahner, 739 Dakota street, Medford. The wedding was per formed by the Rev. T. Nace at 7:30 o'clock in the evening before about 100 guests. The bride was given' in marriage by her father. She wore a floor-length gown of silk organza with long point ed sleeves, and her fingertip- length veil was held by a rhlnestone crown. Her flow ers were gardenias and carna tions. Mrs. Barbara Francis, New Castle, Calif., was matron of honor. She wore a blue ging ham gown with lace inserts and carried gardenias and pink carnations. Bridesmaids, Miss Linda Keenan, Sacra mento, and Miss Kathren Vln- cent, Fair Oaks, wore pink gingham gowns. Loria De FUentes and Kathy Cobb, who lighted candles, wore gowns similar to that of the matron of hon tor's. , Keith Paschke,' Medford, served as best man. Ushers were John Davies, Loomis, and Dave Nelson, Sacramento. A reception followed at Finn hall in Rocklin and the couple left for a week's hon eymoon in Disneyland, the bride 1 wearing a white wool sheatH with matching acces sories,, The newlyweds are making their home at 2651 26th street, Sacramento. Berns. formerly of Med ford and now of Glendale, Ore., became the bride of Ste ven Sutch Jr., Glendale, in a ceremony April 29 at Med ford's Sacred Heart Catholic church. The Rev. John Ilg of ficiated at the nuptial mass and wedding ceremony. The bridegroom's parents are' Mr. and Mrs. Steven Sutch, Glendale. White stock decorated the church for the 10 o clock morning rites. Mr. Berns escorted his daughter to the altar. The bride wore a floor length gown of white Chantil- ly lace over tulle accented with seed pearls at the neck line and on the three-quarter length sleeves. Her fingertip length veil was held by a crown of crystals and seed pearls and she carried a white orchid and orange blos soms on a Bible with a rosary. The orange blossoms had been worn by her mother at her wedding. ' v' Miss Shirley Berns attend ed her sister. She wore ah ice mint green chiffon frock over tulle with white acces sories. Her cascade bouquet was of white carnations. Lit tle Debra Sutch, Glendale, sister of the bridegroom, was flower girl. She carried a bas ket of white petals. Tommy Johnson, Glendale, was ring bearer. Edwin Sutch, Glendale, served as best man for his brother. Seating the guests were Darl Sutch, Glendale, an other brother, and Philip Meglasson, Riddle. Mrs. Berns ,wore for her daughter's wedding a pale green two piece linen suit with white and heige acces- 1 sories. Mrs. Sutch chose a beige shantung frock with matching jacket with pink and beige accessories. Their corsages were of white rose buds. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Girls Community club with about 80 relatives and friends attending. Mrs. Charles Berns and Mrs. Clifford Husman, aunts of the bride, and Mrs. Loren Meacham, aunt of the bridegroom, cut and served the wedding cake. Assisting with the serving were Miss Linda Freeman, Miss Donna Ponsonby and Miss Charleta Long. The couple traveled to the coast on their wedding trip and are making their home in Glendale. For traveling the bride wore a pink linen sheath with white and pink accesso ries and a white orchid cor sage. The bride attended Medford High school for three years and is now a senior at Glen dale High school. Mr. Sutch attended Glendale High school and is a logger with the Berry cogging company. Among the out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ted Berns, Lebanon, and Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Derrick, who are living at the coalt, grandpar ents ol tne bride; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Berns, aunt and uncle of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Nelson and Dana, all Portland; Mr. and Mrs. Clif ford Husman and Dick, Brook ings, and Mr. and Mrs. Loren Meacham, Eugene, aunt and uncle of the bridegroom. Sisters Leave For Stay Abroad Mr. and Mrs. Herbert D. Strang, Oak Ridge avenue, were in Eugene recently to spend some time with Mrs. Strang's mother, Mrs. Pearl Strobel. Mrs. Strobel and her three sisters left May 12 by Jet plane for Europe where they spend several weeks touring that continent. The sisters are Mrs. Lucille Pettibone, Mrs. Ella Dey and Mrs. Sadie Tripp. All four women are widows, and it will be the first trip abroad for all four. At Meeting O'Brien Mrs. George Michels, O'Brien, chairman elect of the Lone Mountain Home Extension unit, attend ed the Home Economics coun cil in Corvallis recently with the representatives of other Illinois Valley Home Exten sion units. K Methodist Women To Hold Rogue Sub-District Session Gold Hill - The Rogue sub- district of the Women's So ciety of Christian Service of the Methodist church will hold its annual spring meet ing in the Gold Hill Commu nity church Tuesday, May 16. Registration will open at 9:30 a.m.; the meeting will open with devotions at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Lochlen L. Greeorv. Gold Hill castor. Mrs. James Lindsay, Wild- erville, sub-district president, will preside over the business meeting. There will be elec tion and installation of offi cers. Workshops on the various lines of work will be conduct ed by the district officers. Re ports of the year's activities will be given by local society presidents. Societies repre sented will be Ashland, Tal ent, Medford First, St. Luke's, Medford,' Gold Hill, Grants Pass, Cave Junction and Wild erville. Luncheon will be served at 12:15 p.m. A nursery will be available. Other societies are asked to send their reserva tions ito Mrs. E. C. Hoffman, president of the locaKgroup, being sure to state how many babies and pre-school children will be attending as the facili ties for child care are limited at the Gold Hill church. Dr. David Boals To Be Speaker Dr. David Boals will speak at the May meeting of Med ford Business and Profes sional Women's club Thurs day, May 18, at the Girls Community club. ' The program will be in charge of the national secur ity committee of which Mrs, B. C. Tenant is chairman. Dr. Boals will talk about civilian defense from the physician's viewpoint. Dessert will be served at 7:30, p.m., by the interna tional relations committee Miss Peggyann Hutchinson is chairman. 1 Pupils To Give Recital Today A group of the piano stu dents of Mrs. Roberta Ward Bebb will be presented in a Mother's day musicale this afternoon at three o'clock at the residence-studio of Mrs. Bebb, 528 South Grape street. Those participating will be Pamela Gilkison, Linda Beat ty, Anna Jean Beardslee, Sheryl Landing, Helen Harp er, Sheryl Eddy and Gall Gladfelter, Parents and interested friends ire invited. MedfordBethel Plans Initiation Bethel 14, International Or der of Job's Daughters, will hold formal initiation begin ning at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, in the Medford Ma sonic temple. The honored queen, Miss Barbara Morton, invites all parents, guardians, and per sons of proper Masonic rela tionship to attend the cere mony. Dance Planned At Domiciliary The Ladies auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of Oregon, will sponsor a dance Monday, May 15, at 8 p.m. in the Veterans Administration theater at White City. Verne Marshall's orchestra will furnish music. The hostess bus will leave the Trailways depot at the new time of 7:20 p.m. for transportation to the dance.
