Nellie Laing, 280 Beatty street. -- The bride-elect is a gradu ate of Medford High school and the University of Oregon and is a physical education instructor at McLoushlln Jun- ior High school. She has beertt the guard-instructor at Haw thorne pool during the past two summers. Mr. Weller was graduated from the Grants Pass High school and will receive his oacneJor of arts degree from the 'University of Oregon next month. I I , ,V ..-Si Newlywed Pair Make, Home Here Talent-Mr. and Mrs. Floyd W. Taylor are making their home at 194S Kenyon street, Medford, following their re turn from a wedding trip to the California coast. The cou ple was married April 19 in a ceremony at Ashland As sembly of God church with the Bev. R. L. Cornwall offi ciating. The ' bride is the former Nancy Arlene Pettitt, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Pettitt, Route 1, Box 108, Tal ent. Mr. Taylor's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bray. Route .1, Box 528. Talent. Baskets of lilacs and pink rosea decorated the church for the eight o'clock evening dou ble ring rites. Miss Sandra Cox played the organ wed' ding music and accompanied Mrs. Cornwall, soloist. Ap proximately 200 guests at tend. The bride wore a floor length gown of white Chantil- ly lace with a bustle back. Her fingertip length veil was held by a crown of seed pearls and sequins and she carried a bouquet of pink sweetheart roses and white stephanotls encircling a white orchid. Mr. Pettitt gave his daughter in marriage. Miss Elizabeth King was maid of honor and brides maids were Miss Nancy Sel- ber and Miss Patricia Diede- rich. They wore frocks of or ganza over taffeta with match ing veils. Miss King wore lilac and carried, pink carna tions and the bridesmaids were in pink and carried lilac colored carnations. . Shower Given For Bride-Elect Miss Rayma Stephens was honored at a bridal shower the evening of May 11 at the home of Mrs. Norman Burke, 645 South Ivy street. Mrs. Marshall Sweet was co-hostess. Miss Stephens, daughter of Mrs. Ray Stephens, 653 South Ivy street, is the bride-elect of Dennis C. Bateman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bateman, 2130 Taylor road, Central Point. Their wedding Is set xor June 11 in First Methodist church. Lavender flowers and pink candles centered the pink re freshment table at the shower Prizes were given for games which Mrs. Sweet directed. Guests were the Mesdames Charles Bateman, Ray Steph ens, Robert Coash, Berle Ste phens, Wayne Case, Ford Hogan, Richard E. Schulz, Leo Jacobs and Glen Bailey. Medford Woman Attends Wedding Mr. Jennie Hutchinson, 522 West Tenth street, returned to the valley Thursday after a visit In Portland, Molajla and Beaverton. While In the north ern part of the state she at tended the wedding of her grandson, Harry R. Hutchin son and Miss Catherine D. Reatoner, both Molalla, on Uay 6. groom, was ring bearer. David Taylor 'served as best man for his brother., James Fiagg and Fred Tycksen seat ed the guests. For her daughter's weddins and reception which followed in the church annex, Mrs. Pet titt chose a beige linen dress with white accessories. Mrs: Taylor wore a pale pink linen sheath' with deeper pink ac cessories. Their flowers were pink carnations. Miss Lois Gage cut and served the wedding cake and Miss Laura Griffith poured the punch. Miss Sheila Tay lor, sister of the bridegroom, was - in charge of the guest book. Miss Sybil Hamilton and Miss Diane DeLuca were at the gift table. For traveling the bride wore a turquoise print cotton dress with white orchid cor sage. The bride is a senior at Phoenix High school. Mr. Tay lor is a graduate of Ashland High school and Is employed by Taylor logging. He will attend college this fall. : 4 SOC Students To Give Recital This Afternoon Ashland - The Southern Oregon college music depart ment will present a piano re cital by students of Miss Helene Robinson, head of the SOC piano department, today at 3 o clock In Churchill au ditorium. Taking part will be Eliza beth Pramann, John Bous- quet, Darylene Storey, Linda Crabill, Joyce Stockstlll, Ron ald Warner. Joyce Hunter, Seung Ha Rhee, Timothy Johnson and Katharine Al- sing. The program will , Include solo numbers, duo piano num bers and will be concluded with Miss Rhee playing the first'- movement of Schu mann's "Concerto In A Minor" with Miss Robinson playing the orchestra part on a sec ond piano. The public is invited, to at tend the recital without charge. 1 Rogues To Hold Dinner, Dance Lively Rogues will hold the May dinner-dance at the Rogue Valley Country club. Thursday, May 18. The marriage was an nounced May 8 at the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority house at the University of Oregon where the bride is a senior majoring in sociology. Attend ing the announcement party in addition to sorority mem bers were her mother, Mrs. Robertson, Mrs. Charles Barnes, an aunt, Mrs. David Carew and Miss Linda Blake-ly. The bride Is a graduate of Medford High school. Mr. Mc Cormack was graduated from Roseburg High school and the University of Oregon where he majored in business con struction. He will soon com plete basic training in the U.S. Armyvat Ft. Ord, Calif., and the newlyweds expect to make their home in Portland. Mr. McCormack is affiliated with Delta Tau Delta social fraternity. , Miss Lois L. Young Miss Lois Young And Glen Taylor Engaged to Wed Central Point Mr. and Mrs! Elfrod L. Carriers and Auxiliary To Convene in Medford An estimated 250 persons are expected in Medford next week end for the annual con vention of Oregon Letter Car riers and auxiliaries. Mrs. Harry Fitzpatrick, chairman of local arrangements, and Mrs. Randolph Hugdahl, co- chairman, are working on fin al details of the event with Mrs. Larry Rose, Medford, state president. The convention will begin Friday evening, May 19, with a Hawaiian luau at the Labor temple. Girls from the South ern Oregon College Hawaiian club will entertain. Sessions of both groups are scheduled for Saturday, followed by a banquet Saturday evening at Rogue Valley Country club. Convention headquarters will be at the Medford hotel. ' To Europe Ashland - Gail S. Brewer Sr., 1500 Ashland Mine road, left Tuesday by jet airliner from San Francisco for a two months European tour. His itinerary includes Spain, Por tugal, France, Belgium, Ger many, Italy and England. National officers will speak at the banquet. Other enter tainment and a dance will follow. Mrs. Rose, who recently vis ited 12 of Oregon's 14 aurill- aries, has been a state officer for nine years and is a past president of the local group. Merit Award of Year Announced by Jayceettes Mrs. Frank M. Wilson re ceived the Medford . Jay ceettes' Merit Award of the Year at their annual MAY luncheon Saturday at the Rogue Valley Country club. Mrs. Wilson was sponsored by the Crater Lions auxiliary. She was the Heart Sunday chairman for Phoenix, has as sisted with the Cancer drive, United Medford Crusade and has been active in Scout and church work. Piano Pupils , Present Recital The pupils of three valley piano teachers held their Spring piano- recital Thursday evening" at Puruckef Music house. The teachers are Mrs. Margaret Taylor, Mrs. Ernest ine Hartley, and Mrs. Dorothy Olesen. ' Students who played in cluded Julie Wolthoff, Debbie Tycer, Ann Delsman, Vickie and Annita Van Buskirk. Richard Doi, Ashland, spoke on Japa nese customs. She compared them to the United States and commented that "English is a difficult language to learn.". She wore the traditional Japa nese kimono and displayed various pieces of Japanese clothing during her talk. Honor Society Pledges Student Corvallis Miss Connie Lee Paulson, 508 Hamilton street, Medford, has been se lected for membership in the sophomore women's service honorary, Talons at Oregon State university.
