I 8 A final Meeting Set For PTA The final meeting of the year of Jefferson Parent Teacher association will be held Friday, May 12, at 8 p.m. in the cafeteria of the school. This is to be a parents and teachers fun night; those at tending are promised a pleas ant evening of fun and fellow ship. Games and activities are planned as well as guest en tertainers. Parents who have not been able to attend other PTA meetings during (he year are especially invited to at tend. ' Installation of new officers for the coming year will be held at the beginning of the meeting. Mrs. Sylvan Mullen, who has been president of the Jefferson PTA this year, will preside. The newly - elected officers are Mrs. Herbert Rob erts, president; Mrs. Milton Snow, vice-president and pro gram chairman, Mrs. Robert Campbell, treasurer, and Mrs. Evan Pruitt, secretary. MEDFORD, OREGON Program Is Announced For Mothers Week End Asniand "Mother Takes a Vacation," is the theme for the Southern Oregon college 19th annual Mothers week end which will be held May 13 on the college campus. Various vacation spots of the world will be depicted by the various events of the week end. Mothers arriving Friday evening will be en tertained by the SOC Players, presenting a group of one-act plays and comic dances in Churchill hall. As the mothers are greeted at the official registration and coffee hour Saturday, at 9 a.m., they will be presented with baby orchids as part of an Aloha welcome from the vacation spot, Hawaii. Registration and coffee hour chairman are Miss Judy Pohl, Klamath Falle, and Miss Phyllis Brlggs, Shady Cove. The scene of the wel come will be in Brltt lounge. At 10 a.m. the annual Mothers' club meeting will be held in Brltt lounge. Style show chairman, Miss Sue Clark, Klamath Falls and tea chairman, Miss Carolee Brant ley, Medford, will make it possible at 2:30 p.m. in Britt ballroom. No vacation would be com plete without a guided tour and Miss Joan Isham, Grants Pass has planned this by showing the parents points of interest around the campus, Later that evening, the SOC Players will again perform at Churchill hall closing the day's vacationing. At 3 p.m. Sunday's the week end's en tertainment will be concluded with a piano recital by stu dents of ' Helene Robinson, also at Churchill hall. General chairman is Miss Linda Wright, Ashland. . Square Dancing Class Planned; Bows To Meet A beginners class in square dancing will be held at the Derby Community hall start ing Friday, May 12, at 8 p.m. Instructor will be Edwin Cavin. Anyone Interested in tak ing the course may call NOr mandy 4-2558 for information. Buckles and Bows Buckles and Bows Square Dance club will hold a dance at Bellview Grange hall Sat urday, May 13, starting at 8:30 p.m. Floyd Workman will be caller; all square dancers are invited. Potluck refreshments will be served. Instruction in round danc ing will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. for anyone ested. 1 . Mrs. Walter Higglns, Mrs. Lester Lollis and Mrs. Milton Snow represent the WSCS of First Methodist church; Mrs. George Lawless is attending as the conference secretary of student work, Mrs. George Rosebcrry as the conference secretary of supply work and Mrs. Ross Youngblood com plctcs the delegation. "Our Mission Today" is the meeting theme and 800 worn, en from 1S1 societies are ex- pected to attend the two-day sessions. Speakers will Include Miss Leila V. Dingle, Berkeley Ualir., who served 31 years In the Philippines; and the Rev. Daniel E. Taylor, Rose City Park Methodist church, Portland. Dr. Raymond Bal comb, formerly of Medford and now of the Corvallls Methodist church and Dr. Gertrude Boyd Crane of For est Grove are conducting the workshop services for the ses sions. Mrs. Russell Watson, Port land, president, will preside and election of officers will bt held. Past Noble Grands To Honor Mothers Members of the Fast Noble Grands club of Olive Re bekah lodge will honor their mothers and grandmothers at a meeting set for Thursday, May 11. It will be held at 8 p.m. at Girls Community club. Entertainment is being planned, and refreshments will be served. Lady Lions' Medlord Lady Lions will meet at the home of Mrs. Earl Miller, 617 Park street, to night at 7:30 o'clock. Mrs Frank Christian, Talent, president of the Oregon Lions auxiliary, will be a guest. Installation of officers took place at the last meeting of Griffin Creek Parent-Teacher association, with Mrs. D, G. McKee in charge. The new officers are Mrs. M. L. Priebe, president; Mrs Larry Briggs, vice-president; Mrs. Mary Overstreet, fourth grade teacher, secretary; Mrs, Arthur Savage, treasurer. Mrs. J. Morris Tucker, re tiring president, was given past president's pin. Mrs. Wesley Ober was pre sented a gift in "appreciation and recognition of her work with the PTA." The Obers plan to move from the area when school is out. A string group composed of Sheila Shockley, Cheryl Cook and Dale Fowler played under the direction of Miss Alice Saunders. The PTA Mother singers sang a group of four songs, one depicting a mother getting ready for a PTA meet ing. They were warmly re ceived by the audience. Elliott B e c k e n, assistant superintendent of schools, talked on the school budget, It was announced that the PTA will hold a rummage sale May 16, Tuesday, at the Fehl building from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Articles for the sale may be taken to the school gymnasium. It is reported that almost 500 persons attended the re cent school science and social studies fair, and that almost that many were present for the chili supper given by the PTA the same evening. About $200 was cleared from the dinner. Mrs. Austin's room was in charge of refreshments at the meeting. ' 1 Mother-Daughter Banquet Planned The annual mother-daugh ter banquet will be held at First Methodist church Mon day, May 15. The theme will be "Jewels In Your Crown." Featured on the program will be special honors to the church's 'VIP's," some seri ous, some humorous, and a puppet show. Reservations may be- made with Mrs. George Watson, Spring 2-8400, or Mrs. Lee VanAusdall, Spring 3-1873. Girl Scout Council Holds Spring Session in Ashland Over 65 delegates from Jo sephine, Jackson and west Siskiyou ' counties attended the Rogue Valley Girl Scout council spring meeting May 3 at the Mark Antony hotel, Ashland. Troop 146 of Lincoln school, Ashland, conducted the flag ceremony, led by Bonnie Graber. Mrs. T. M Deter, third vice-president and member of the regional committee, was mistress of ceremonies. The Rev. Ernest Bell of Talent Methodist church gave the invocation. Mrs. Richard Gray, Med lord, council president, was in charge of the business ses sion. Delegates approved the budget for the coming year, Announcements were made concerning the Heritage Trail hike which will include Med ford, and is to be made by a group of 18 girls touring the western States this summer by chartered bus. Mrs. Rich ard Finch, Medford, is chair man, ' - Also discussed was the Pa cific Northwest regional con ference which will be held October 31-November 2 in Spokane, Chapter To Hold Tea for Mothers A tea will be held Sunday, May 14, by Gamma Rho chap ter of Beta Sigma Phi, in hon or of the mothers of the mem bers. 'The event will be held at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs, Harold Sloper. The group will meet Wednesday, May 10, at ihe home of Mrs. Jack Wheeler, 3570 Calhoun road, Medford. At the last meeting of the group at the home of Mrs. Sloper, Phoenix, Mrs. Robert Myrick was honored with a shower. Mrs. William Kidson pre sented a program on music's influence on our lives. Mrs. Wheeler spoke on sculpture and painting. The program will include four levels for girls 7 to 17 years of age, rather than three, and new books and leaders man uals will be used.
